A track and field coaching legend, Edward Temple began his coaching career in 1953 after having a standout running career at Tennessee State.  As the head ‘Tigerbelles’ coach, athletes won 13 gold and 23 total Olympic medals.  Coach Temple led the Tigerbelles to 34 team titles, 16 indoor, 13 outdoor, and five junior level competitions. 

 

Temple was named as the head US Olympic women’s track coach for the 1960 and 1964 games and was an assistant coach for the 1980 Olympics.  He also led the national women teams against theUSSR in duel meets in 1958 and 1959.  Coach Temple retired from coaching at TSU in 1993.
