He led the Golden Eagles to OVC championships in 1972 and 1975, and posted a .509 winning percentage, the second-best mark in school history. His 81 career victories also ranks as the second-highest by a TTU football coach. A three-time OVC Coach of the Year honoree, Wade also mentored three OVC Players of the Year and guided 50 players to All-Conference honors during his tenure. A graduate of Clemson University and four-year member of the Tigers’ football team, Wade returned to Clemson and served as an administrative assistant for the football program from 1983 to 1988. In 1992, he was elected into the Clemson Athletics Hall of Fame.
