Southeast Missouri's Peiffer Finishes 12th in Buck Buchanan Balloting

PHILADELPHIA - Southeast Missouri State senior linebacker Blake Peiffer finished 12th in voting for the 2012 Buck Buchanan Award presented by the Sports Network. The award is given to the top defensive player in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) and was announced at the FCS Award Banquet on Monday.

Of the 145 total ballots cast, Peiffer received three first-place votes, four second-place votes, seven third-place votes, five fourth-place votes and five fifth-place votes to tally 67 points.

Montana State defensive end Caleb Schreibeis was named the winner of the award.

Peiffer was the OVC Defensive Player of the Year after finishing his senior season ranked 17th nationally in tackles per game (10.64). This postseason he has been named an All-American by both the Sports Network (3rd Team) and Associated Press (2nd Team).

He recorded a total of 117 tackles (60 solo) to go along with eight tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and a pass breakup. Peiffer turned in double-digit tackles six times, including a season-high 18 against regional-rival Southern Illinois (Sept. 15). He added another 15 tackles in the Redhawks overtime victory over defending OVC Champion Tennessee Tech and had 14 stops against nationally-ranked Tennessee State. Peiffer wrapped up his career with more than 100 tackles in back-to-back seasons. His 359 career tackles ranks third all-time at Southeast.
