Southeast Missouri Women, Eastern Illinois Men Earn OVC Indoor Track and Field Titles

CHARLESTON, Ill. - The Southeast Missouri women and the Eastern Illinois men won the 2013 Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship. It marked the sixth overall title for the Redhawks while the Panthers earned their fifth straight and 15th overall crown.

The SEMO women earned 101 points to take first place while Tennessee State finished with 95 points for second place. Eastern Illinois had 88 points followed by Murray State (87), SIUE (74), Eastern Kentucky (67), Jacksonville State (54), Austin Peay (41) and Belmont (17). Tennessee Tech did not score.

On the men's side, EIU garnered 199 points while Southeast Missouri finshed in second with 115.5 points. Rounding out the field Eastern Kentucky (104), SIUE (82), Tennessee State (78.5) and Belmont (29).

Southeast Missouri's Eric Crumpecker earned OVC Women's Coach of the Year while Eastern Illinois' Tom Akers earned his 15th Men's Coach of the Year Award.

The Redhawk women earned one first place finish and three second-place finishes on their way to the title while the Panther men took nine individual crowns. Eastern Illinois' Calvin Edwards earned first-place finishes in the 200 meters (21.90) and 400 meters (48.71).

Jacksovnille State's Laveeta Oliver set the OVC record in the 60 meters for the second straight day with a time of 7.47.
