Complete NCAA Release

The OVC champion Austin Peay men's golf team will play at the NCAA Regionals at the Arizona State Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz.

Murray State senior Patrick Newcomb, who earned an automatic bid to the NCAAs after winning the OVC Championship, earned the No. 4 individual seed in the Fayetteville Regional while Jacksonville State sophomore Tomasz Anderson earned at at-large berth and will be the No. 2 individual seed in the Baton Rouge Regional.

Nationally six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted May 16-18. There will be 13 teams and 10 individuals not on those teams competing at each of three regionals, while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals.

The finals will be conducted May 28-June 2, at The Capital City Club, Crabapple Course in Atlanta, Georgia. Georgia Tech is the host institution for this year’s championships.

Austin Peay was awarded a No. 12 seed in its region after earning the OVC automatic bid and are expected to utilize the same lineup that carried them to the OVC title, featuring senior Dustin Korte, juniors Anthony Bradley and Maro Iten, sophomore Tucker Wallace and freshman Chris Baker. The Govs won its eight OVC Championship at GreyStone Golf Course two weeks ago. The team led by nine strokes after round two before weather forced the cancellation of the final round.

Newcomb was named OVC Golfer of the Year for the second consecutive season after winning OVC medalist honors this season. At the OVC Championship he had rounds of 69-70 to finish at 139 (-5) and top the field by a stroke. The senior led the OVC in stroke average (71.3) during the year.

Anderson was the first Gamecock to receive an at-large individual bid since Danny Willett earned one in 2007. It will be his second-consecutive appearance in the NCAA Regionals after he led JSU to the Bowling Green, Ky., Regional as the OVC champions as a freshman last season. Anderson picked up his second-straight All-OVC honor as a sophomore after finishing fourth in the league with a 72.4 stroke average.
