EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - The Southeast Missouri track and field teams swept the Ohio Valley Conference Championship Saturday. The men's squad tallied 207 points to earn a 12.5 point victory over Eastern Illinois while the women's team scored 141 points to earn the 7.5 point victory over Austin Peay.
The victories snapped a streak of five-straight sweeps by Eastern Illinois and was the first OVC Championship for the men since 2008. The last time the women won in 2006, the Redhawks also swept the championship.
Southeast Missouri head coach
Eric Crumpecker was named OVC men's Coach of the Year while Austin Peay's
Doug Molnar was named OVC Women's Coach of the Year.
The men's final standings saw Southeast Missouri (207) followed by Eastern Illinois (194.5), host SIUE (116), Tennessee State (101.5), Belmont (87), Eastern Kentucky (85) and Morehead State (16).
The women's final standings included Southeast Missouri (141) followed by Austin Peay (133.5), Eastern Illinois (122.5), Tennessee State (120.5), Eastern Kentucky (78.5), SIUE (74), Murray State (60), Jacksonville State (36), Belmont (35), Morehead State (10) and Tennessee Tech (6).
