Just in time for OVC Fall Championship events and the beginning of basketball season, the Ohio Valley Conference has announced the launch of an OVC Digital Network channel via the Roku Streaming Player.
Roku is a series of digital media player set-top boxes manufactured by Roku, Inc. Roku partners provide over-the-top content in the form of channels via a wired or Wi-Fi connection. In 2014, Roku streamed over 3 billion hours of content, up 72% from the prior year, and ended the year with about 7 million monthly active accounts. Roku currently offers a variety of streaming set-top boxes, streaming sticks and a co-branded Roku smart television.
Roku users who download the free OVC Digital Network channel will be able watch all the OVC’s live and on-demand content on their televisions free of charge with ease.
The OVC Digital Network is the exclusive home for live web streamed athletic contests involving OVC schools. The events are offered free of charge and in an HD format and in addition to being viewed on Roku, can be accessed via any computer, tablet or smart phone without needing any special downloads. Last year over 800 total events were steamed with 400,000 viewers watching a variety of sports and ancillary programming.
At the beginning of this academic year the OVCDN incorporated a "DVR" function that allows any viewer to rewind and/or fast forward to any point of the contest while it is live; previously a fan could only rewind the stream 30 seconds. Also new this year is an “instant archiving” feature that allows fans to watch a replay of the contest immediately after the event concludes.
Fans can watch the upcoming OVC Soccer Championship (November 6 & 8) and OVC Volleyball Championship (November 19-21) on the OVC Digital Network in addition to nearly 300 men’s and women’s basketball games this season (192 Conference games and 100 non-conference contests).
The OVCDN is a partnership with SIDEARM Sports, which also hosts OVCSports.com.
