OVC Male Golfer of the Week
Kyle Slattery · Sr. · Rockford, Ill. · SIUE
Slattery claimed his third medalist honors of the season by taking first place out of 66 competitors at the F&M Bank Austin Peay Intercollegiate held at the GreyStone Golf Club in Dickson, Tennessee. Playing in wet conditions (which limited the event to 36 holes), the senior carded rounds of 67-69 to finish at 136 (-8) and top the field, that included seven total OVC teams, by two strokes. He helped the SIUE team to a second-place team finish out of 10 teams. He became just the third player in school history to win three tournaments in a career, yet alone a season. Slattery now has 12 career rounds in the 60s, tied for the most in school history. In 14 rounds this season, Slattery has a 70.4 stroke average, which ranks third in the OVC.
Others Nominated: Chase Korte, Austin Peay; Noah Trenkler, Belmont; Jesus Montenegro, Jacksonville State; Cooper Collins, Morehead State; Avery Edwards, Murray State; John Tyminski, Tennessee State.
OVC Female Golfers of the Week
Sarah McDowell · Fr. · Murray, Ky. · Murray State
McDowell claimed her first collegiate medalist crown, taking first place at the ULM Fred Marx Invitational held at the Bayou Desiard Country Club in Monroe, Louisiana. The freshman carded rounds of 72-72 to finish at 144 (even par) in an event that was shortened to 36 holes due to rain on Tuesday. McDowell topped the field of 51 by a shot, besting her teammate Linette Holmslykke (who had already earned a pair of OVC Golfer of the Week honors earlier this season). McDowell's performance helped Murray State to a six-shot team victory, its second-straight win this fall; in four events so far this year the Racers have finished no worse than third place. Through 11 rounds, McDowell has a season scoring average of 75.2 (seventh in the OVC).
Others Nominated: Taylor Goodley, Austin Peay; Cameron Fish, Belmont; Bridget Connolly, Morehead State; Lindsay Miller, Tennessee Tech.
