On Monday the Ohio Valley Conference held a youth basketball clinic in Evansville in advance of the annual 2018 OVC Basketball Media Day. The clinic was sponsored by Old National Bank and held at the Downtown Evansville YMCA in conjunction with the Boys & Girls Club of America.
Approximately 75 boys and girls from 4th through 6th grades participated in the event which was led by seven head coaches from OVC institutions.
OVC coaches who participated included in the event included
Matt Bollant (Eastern Illinois),
Brian "Penny" Collins (Tennessee State),
A.W. Hamilton (Eastern Kentucky),
Jessica Kern (Tennessee State),
Steve Payne (Tennessee Tech),
Chrissy Roberts (Eastern Kentucky),
Jay Spoonhour (Eastern Illinois) and
Anthony Stewart (UT Martin). In addition OVC student-athletes
Nick Mayo (Eastern Kentucky) and
Tia Wooten (Tennessee State) also particpated.
In addition to receiving skill instruction and a sportsmanship talk from OVC coaches, each participant received
a basketball sponsored by the YMCA and tickets to the 2019 OVC Basketball Championships thanks to Old National Bank.
The 2019 OVC Men's and Women's Basketball Championship will be held at the Ford Center in Evansville for the second-straight year. The event runs March 6-9. Tickets for the event go on sale beginning Tuesday, October 23.
