#3 MOREHEAD STATE 5, #6 EASTERN KENTUCKY 2
OXFORD, Ala. - Last year's College Home Run Derby Champion Niko Hulsizer broke a scoreless tie in the sixth inning with a solo home run and Jake Hammon added a three-run shot an inning later to lift Morehead State to a 5-2 win over Eastern Kentucky in an elimination game on Saturday.
The Eagles (35-24) advance to the Championship Round to take on No. 1 seed Tennessee Tech at 4 p.m.
Hulsizer finished the game with two hits, as did Connor Pauly and Tyler Niemann.
MSU starter Will Lozinak lasted 6.1 innings, while reliever J.C. Hatcher (4-2) picked up the win after allowing one run in 2.1 innings of work. Freshman Cory Conway recorded his fourth save of the season, entering the game with two outs in the ninth and picking off a runner at second base without throwing a pitch.
Jaxon Blair (1-2) suffered the loss, giving up four runs in 1/3 of an inning.
#3 MOREHEAD STATE 11, #1 TENNESSEE TECH 6
OXFORD, Ala. - Morehead State won its second game of the game in topping Tennessee Tech 11-6 to force a second championship game on Sunda.
Senior second baseman Braxton Morris - the all-time games played (224) leader in Morehead State history, was the offensive hero, and Cory Conway was the MVP on the mound.
Morris' two hits both left the yard, including a two-run homer in the third inning and a grand slam in the sixth frame to push the MSU lead to 11-3.
Meanwhile Conway gave his team 4.1 innings of important relief, only surrendering two runs in his final inning. He struck out three in improving to 8-3 while also setting the school single-season record with his 34th appearance.
Junior TJ Satterly struck out Tech's Collin Harris to end the eighth inning, and typical starter Dalton Stambaugh entered in the ninth with the bases loaded and struck out the final two hitters for his first career save.
After homering in the day's first game, Niko Hulsizer also bombed another round-tripper against Tech, sending a pitch from Golden Eagle starter Alex Hursey nearly 500 feet over the left-field wall in the fourth inning.
Morris, Pauly and Hammon all had two hits, with Hammon upping his tournament RBI total to a league-high 10.
