On Tuesday the Ohio Valley Conference held a basketball clinic in Evansville as part of its annual OVC Basketball Media Day. The clinic was sponsored by Old National Bank and held at the Ford Center.
The participants taking part in the clinic were from the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation’s high school Unified Sports program. Unified Sports joins people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team. The athletes (individuals with intellectual disabilities) were paired with partners (individuals without intellectual disabilities). Unified Sports empowers individuals with and without intellectual disabilities to engage through the power of sports. Teams are made up of people of similar age and ability so that practices are more fun and games are more challenging and exciting for all.
Approximately 65 students participated in the event which was led by seven head coaches from OVC institutions. OVC coaches who participated included in the event included
A.W. Hamilton (Eastern Kentucky),
Rekha Patterson (Southeast Missouri),
