Five OVC Football Players to Participate in FCS Bowl

Five Ohio Valley Conference football players will participate in the FCS Bowl by Spiral. The senior event, which is now in its sixth year, will take place on Sunday, December 8 at Daytona Beach Stadium in Daytona Beach, Fla.  

Eastern Illinois running back Darshon McCullough and Jacksonville State long snapper Josh Brady will be part of the National Team (Blue) while a trio of JSU players - wide receiver Daniel Byrd, linebacker Jalen Choice and nickel Christian Wafford - will compete for the American Team (Red).

McCullough played in eight games this season as a running back and return specialist for the Panthers.  He was second on the team with 377 yards rushing with two touchdowns.  His breakout game of the season was in the Panthers late season win at Tennessee State where he rushed for 155 yards on 17 carries.  McCullough closed out his collegiate career with a 110 yard rushing effort on 20 carries at Austin Peay. During his junior season, McCullough moved to the defensive side of the football making five starts at safety and finishing the season with 13 tackles.
 
Brady wraps up a career that saw him start 48 games as the Gamecocks' long snapper. He earned multiple All-America honors over his career and successfully delivered 497 snaps over his career, including a career-high 142 in 2018.
 
Byrd became one of the Gamecocks' most trusted receivers as he concluded a career that saw him move to offense from cornerback after a couple of seasons. He ended his career with 64 catches for 715 yards and a pair of touchdown catches, thanks to 27 receptions for 312 yards in his senior campaign.
 
Choice emerged as a leader on the Gamecocks' defense, serving as the team's starting Will Linebacker in his junior and senior seasons. As a junior in 2018, he was an All-Ohio Valley Conference selection after leading the team in tackles. He was second on the 2019 Gamecocks with 80 stops and finished his career with 192 total tackles and 21.5 tackles for a loss. He also intercepted a pass and forced a fumble for JSU.
 
Wafford was the Gamecocks' starting Nickel over his final two seasons at JSU, including 11 starts as a senior in 2019. He had 31 tackles in 2019, concluding a career that saw him total 113 stops, 18.5 for a loss. He also broke up seven passes, intercepted one and forced and recovered a fumble.
