Ernie House was not only one of the top players in Eastern Kentucky history (1974-77), but has continued to give back to his alma mater and the football program following his career.
House, who was inducted into the EKU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2011, he was named the Colonels' Offensive MVP in 1976 and 1977 and was the Ohio Valley Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Year in 1976. He also earned All-American honors in 1977.
He set numerous records during his playing career, including the single-game touchdown passes record as a sophomore and the school mark for total offense in 1976 when he led EKU to the OVC Championship with an 8-3 record. While serving two seasons as team co-captain, he finished his Eastern career with 4,011 yards passing and 28 TD’s, while adding another 571 yards rushing and 14 rushing TD’s.
The success he had on the field would translate to his success in his career after college. House was called a "businessman with an entrepreneurial spirit" and has been involved in several different businesses over the year.
A native of London, Kentucky, House has been active working his with church and on several different boards and foundations in his hometown.
He has given his time to his alma mater, serving two terms on the EKU Board of Regents.
In 2016, EKU began making improvements to Roy Kidd Stadium, which included an expansion project on the East side of the stadium. That included the addition of over 3,000 new bleacher seats, and a concourse that will feature modern concessions and restroom facilities.
Another key part of the expansion was a new team locker room and team lounge for the Colonel players. The player lounge was made possible due to a generous donation from House and opened in 2018.
