OVC Tennis Players of the Week- February 5

Male Athlete of the Week
Daniel Hernández, Jr. – Palma de Mallorca, Spain - Eastern Illinois

Hernández, to start the season, has posted the most wins by and EIU men’s tennis player. In doing so he has helped lead the Panthers to a 7-3 overall record. He posted an individual record of 5-2, while playing between the No. 2 and No. 3 singles. His record while playing at No. 2 singles is 2-0, and at the No. 3 singles he is 3-2. In doubles he has played at the No. 2 spot and posted two wins so far this spring.

Female Co-Athletes of the Week
Fabienne Schmidt, Jr. – Hillscheid, Germany - Austin Peay

Schmidt has been a critical contributor to the Govs' early success. She has helped lead them to a 3-1 start on the season and her record in singles play is 4-0. That includes a win over Western Kentucky’s No. 1 on Saturday in Clarksville. In doubles play Schmidt and her partner Aleks Topalovic sit as the Govs No. 2 pairing on the season. They have won three-straight matches to improve their record to 3-1. Schmidt has won six-straight matches dating back to the fall.

Rachel Papavasilopoulos, Jr. – Boca Raton, Fla. - Eastern Illinois
Papavasilopoulos has been great to start the spring. She has posted a 6-0 record in singles action, playing each match at No. 1. Five of her six wins in the spring have come in the way of straight sets. She has also carried her success over to doubles play where her record is 5-2. In doubles she played six of the seven matches at the No. 1 doubles spot.
