• 2019-20 OVC Commissioner's Cup Standings When Spring Season Was Canceled (PDF) | Commissioner's Cup History
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the fact that nine OVC spring championships could not be contested, the Commissioner's Cup all-sport trophy will not be awarded for the 2019-20 academic year.
It was determined by a vote of Director of Athletics this was the fairest approach to all schools and student-athletes due the number of OVC-sponsored sports that did not have an opportunity to finish their seasons.
When the spring sports seasons were canceled, 10 OVC Championships had been completed while nine OVC Championships were not able to be contested (women’s tennis, men’s tennis, beach volleyball, women’s golf, men’s golf, women’s outdoor track & field, men’s outdoor track & field, softball and baseball).
Although they will not claim the 2019-20 championship, Southeast Missouri was the leader following the winter championships. They had first-place finishes in soccer and football, and a second-place finish and tournament championship in volleyball. In the winter they added a second-place finish in men's indoor track and field, a third-place finish in women's indoor track and field and a third-place finish and tournament title in women's basketball.
The Redhawks (80.75 points) have a 5.75-point lead over last year's champion Murray State (75). Belmont (68.5) is third and followed by Eastern Illinois (68), Eastern Kentucky (66), UT Martin (62), Austin Peay (58), Jacksonville State and Morehead State (48.5 apiece), Tennessee Tech (46.5), SIUE (38.75) and Tennessee State (34.75).
The Commissioner's Cup is a symbol of overall athletic excellence in Conference-sponsored championships. The honor began in 2008-09 and replaced the previously award known as the All-Sports Trophies (those awards began in 1962-63 for men's sports and 1980-81 for women's sports and were divided into a Men's All-Sport Champion and a Women's All-Sport Champion).
For the OVC Commissioner's Cup, OVC schools are required to count point totals for four main sports (football, volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball) along with their next eight highest point totals from the remaining sports, regardless of gender. Belmont, Morehead State and SIUE, which do not compete in OVC football, count baseball as one of its four required sports.
The points system for scoring is as follows. For all sports (except rifle, men's indoor and men's outdoor track, men's tennis and beach volleyball – which have fewer participating teams), the first place team earns 12 points, the second place team earns 11 points, etc. For rifle, men's tennis and men's indoor, men's outdoor track and field and beach volleyball, the first-place team earns 12 points and subsequent point increments are calculated by dividing the total number of OVC member institutions by the number of institutions sponsoring the sport. In addition winners of OVC Tournaments (soccer, volleyball, basketball, tennis, softball and baseball) get one additional bonus point.
