TUNICA, Miss. – Little Rock completed a wire-to-wire lead to claim the 2024 Ohio Valley Conference Women’s Golf Championship on Tuesday.
It marks the first OVC title for the Trojans who joined the OVC prior to the 2022-23 season. It is the school’s first women’s golf conference title since winning back-to-back Sun Belt crowns in 1998 and 1999.
The Trojans finished at 911 (+47), which was eight shots ahead of defending champion Morehead State (+55). Tennessee Tech rebounded after day one to improve over each of the final two rounds and place third (+79). The field was rounded out by Lindenwood (+88), Western Illinois (+90), Chicago State (+121), Tennessee State (+136), Eastern Illinois (+142) and Southern Indiana (+142).
With the victory, Little Rock earned the OVC's automatic bid into the NCAA Championship. The 2024 field will be announced on Wednesday, April 24 on the Golf Channel at 1 p.m. CT. The NCAA Regionals will be held May 6-8 and take place in Auburn, Alabama; Lansing, Michigan; Bermuda Run, North Carolina; Las Vegas, Nevada; Bryan, Texas; and Cle Elum, Washington.
Little Rock’s
Anna Dawson claimed medalist honors after carding rounds of 72-75-76 to finish at 223 (+7) in the gusty wind conditions during the week. She finished one shot ahead of the field.
After the final round the coaches voted Dawson the OVC Player of the Year. She becomes the first Trojan to claim the award.
In addition Little Rock’s
Jenna Birch was voted the Bobby Nichols OVC Coach of the Year.
The All-Tournament Team, which is comprised of the top five finishers and ties, included Dawson, Little Rock’s
Eleonore Aernouts, Morehead State’s
Amelia Greenlee and
Olivia Hensley and Tennessee Tech’s
Kaydi Rhodes.
For the week the course played between 6,167 and 6,196 yards and was a par 72.
The OVC men's golf championship is next on the schedule, beginning Sunday morning at RTJ at the Shoals in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
