Little Rock Lengthens Lead After Round Two of 2024 OVC Men's Golf Championship

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – Little Rock combined to shoot a team score of 279 (-9) to lengthen its lead to seven shots entering the final round of stroke play on Tuesday.

The OVC Championship is being played at RTJ at The Shoals for the ninth time overall and first since 2021.The course played par 72 with yardage of 7,147 yards for the teams on Monday.  After cool temperatures on Sunday, there were perfect playing conditions for Monday’s second round.

The Trojans are at 570 (-6) for the Championship, which is seven shots ahead of Tennessee Tech (+1). UT Martin (+8) and SIUE (+13) round out the top four. The top four teams after Tuesday’s stroke play round will advance to Wednesday’s Match Play event. 

Morehead State is fifth (+25) and followed by Southern Indiana (+26), Lindenwood (+27), Chicago State (+43), Western Illinois (+47), Tennessee State (+48) and Eastern Illinois (+80).

Better playing conditions led to better scores during round two with five players shooting in the 60s. Little Rock’s Archie Smith remains the individual leader after a round of 67 (-5); he is now at -6 for the Championship, which is four shots ahead of Tennessee Tech’s Haden Maxell, UT Martin’s Dax Isbell and Little Rock’s Matteo Cristoni (all at -2 after 36 holes). Maxwell had the low round of the Championship with a 66 (-6) on Monday.

The OVC Men's Golf Championship will continue with 18 holes of third round action on Tuesday. The action starts at 8:00 a.m. CT and live scoring can be accessed through links at OVCSports.com.
