Little Rock’s Smith Claims Medalist Honors; Match Play Pairings Set for 2024 OVC Men’s Golf Championship

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – After 54 holes of stroke play, the semifinals for the 2024 OVC Men’s Golf Championship Match Play event are set for Wednesday.

Little Rock, Tennessee Tech, UT Martin and SIUE are the top four seeds and will play for the OVC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Championship on Wednesday.

No. 1 Little Rock and No. 4 SIUE will tee off beginning at 8:00 a.m. CT on Hole 1 while No. 2 Tennessee Tech and No. 3 UT Martin will tee off on Hole 11 beginning at 8:04 a.m. CT. The winners will play in the Championship Match at approximately 1 p.m.

Defending champion Little Rock finished stroke play with a combined score of 863 (-1) which was eight shots better than second place Tennessee Tech (+7). UT Martin, who last won the OVC Championship in 2022, was third (+18) followed by SIUE (+27). Morehead State, Lindenwood and Southern Indiana tied for fifth (+37) and were followed by Western Illinois (+60), Chicago State (+66), Tennessee State (+82) and Eastern Illinois (+131).

Little Rock’s Archie Smith won medalist honors with a 54-hole total of 209 (-7) which was five shots ahead of Tennessee Tech’s Haden Maxwell. It marked the second-straight year a Little Rock golfer claimed medalist honors. With the win he will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals (which will be announced next Wednesday).

Smith and Maxwell were joined on the All-Tournament team by Little Rock’s Matteo Cristoni (even), Southern Indiana’s Jason Bannister (+1), Tennessee Tech’s Mark McDearman (+1) and UT Martin’s Dax Isbell (+1).

The OVC Championship is being played at RTJ at The Shoals for the ninth time overall and first since 2021.The course played par 72 with yardage of 7,183 yards for the teams on Tuesday.
