MSU's Becker Named Semifinalst for 2024 Brooks Wallace Award

The College Baseball Foundation announced the semifinalists for the 2024 Brooks Wallace Award on Wednesday, and Morehead State baseball's Colton Becker was named among the 29 semifinalists for the award.

The Brooks Wallace Award, sponsored by Mizuno, is given to the nation's top shortstop each year. The award is named after former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977-80, and tragically passed away due to leukemia at the age of 27.

Colton Becker has been an integral part of Morehead State's success in recent seasons, and is having his best season yet as a senior in 2024.

Through 50 games, Becker is slashing .347/.429/.601, marking a career high in each category. Becker has posted career highs in home runs (11), doubles (19), and RBI (52) at the plate this season. He has also walked 29 times compared to just 24 strikeouts, showing remarkable plate discipline.

On the base paths, Becker leads the OVC and ranks 23rd in the nation in stolen bases with 27. That total ranks T-2nd in program history for steals in a single season. He has been caught just twice since 2022.

Becker holds a .953 fielding percentage and has turned 16 double plays this year. The senior from Ohio has exhibited great range and ability at one of the most important positions on the diamond.

Becker is the first Eagle named as a semifinalist for the award since Reid Leonard was named a finalist in 2018.
