NORTHWESTERN 9, EASTERN ILLINOIS 7
EVANSTON, Ill.
- The Eastern Illinois baseball team (15-29, 9-12 OVC) dropped a hard-fought non-conference game at Northwestern (14-30, 2-16 Big 10) on Tuesday evening. The teams were within two runs of each other the entire contest with a pair of lead changes, but the Wildcats were able to stave off the Panthers for a 9-7 win.

Following a fielding error, the Wildcats pounced into the scoring column first with a pair of unearned runs in the top of the second inning.

The Panthers immediately responded in the top of the third, first with a bases loaded fielder's choice by Quade Peters that scored Luke Melton, followed by a three-run blast from none other than Lucas Loos that put Eastern up 4-2.

After a solo home run by Bennett Markinson in the bottom of the third, Northwestern regained their two-run advantage with a three-run fourth inning that featured a two RBI double by Owen McElfatrick and RBI single by Jackson Freeman.

After a quiet fifth inning, Trenton Pallas tied the game up with a two-run homer in the sixth. It was Pallas' second long ball of the season.

However, the Wildcats punched right back in the bottom of the sixth with a Jackson Freeman two RBI triple to recapture their lead.

After a scoreless seventh, the teams swapped a run each in the eighth inning to remain separated by two entering the final regulation frame.

The Panthers were unable to put a rally together In their final at-bat and succumbed to a 9-7 defeat.

Lukas Touma (1-2) was designated the loss despite giving up just one run with three strikeouts through 1.2 innings of relief work.

The EIU offense was again led by Lucas Loos, who went 3-5 with a home run, double, and three RBI while adding a stolen base.  

Michael O'Conor also recorded a 3-5 outing with a run scored. Cade Zalewski was the other Panther with multiple hits, going 2-4 with a double.

SAINT LOUIS 9, LINDENWOOD 4
ST. LOUIS
- The Lindenwood baseball team (14-34) dropped a midweek game to Saint Louis (34-11) by a score of 9-4 on Tuesday night from St. Louis, Mo.

Lindenwood threatened in the first, but had its rally halted after Kam Edwards was thrown out at home. SLU took a 2-0 lead in the second after a two-run blast to left. The Billikens added three runs in the third, extending the lead to 5-0.

The Lions chipped away, scoring two runs in the fourth with a big two-out hit from James Jett that brought home Bryson Arnette and Anthony Stellato. Michael Walsh worked out of a bases loaded jam in the fourth to keep the score 5-2. SLU tacked on a run in the fifth to go up by four.

Lindenwood dew closer in the seventh after Dawson Hokuf doubled home Edwards and Evan Funkhouser, making the score 6-4. It was the third hit of the day for Hokuf. The black and gold put two on with nobody out in the eighth but were unable to push any runs across. SLU put some insurance on the board in the bottom half with its third homer of the game, moving the score to 9-4. Lindenwood couldn't draw any closer, falling by that score.

EVANSVILLE 10, SOUTHERN INDIANA 0
EVANSVILLE, Ind.
- University of Southern Indiana Baseball was hit by a offensive power surge in the first inning and lost to the University of Evansville, 10-0, Tuesday evening at German American Bank Field at Charles H. Braun Stadium. The Screaming Eagles are 22-27 overall, while Aces go to 28-20.
 
After USI went down in order in the top of the first, UE muscled up and banged three first inning home runs (two two-run homers and a three-run blast) to lead 7-0 after one frame. The Aces would go on to build a 10-0 margin with a run in the fifth and two tallies int he sixth. USI, offensively, could not get the bats going and hit into double plays to erase its three hits in the game.
 
USI junior right-hander Adam Weihe (Louisville, Kentucky) started and took the loss for the Eagles. Weihe (1-3) struggle in his first start of the year, allowing the seven first inning runs in two-thirds of a frame.

SOUTHERN ILLINOIS 8, SIUE 7
CARBONDALE, Ill.
- Nathan Bandy's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning gave SIU Carbondale an 8-7 walk-off win over SIUE Tuesday at Itchy Jones Stadium.

SIUE dropped to 18-29-1. The Cougars have lost five in a row. The Salukis are 27-22.

Trey Cutchen doubled to start the ninth off SIUE's Alex Rodriguez. Cutchen moved to third on a sacrifice bunt before scoring on the SAC fly.

Alex Rodriguez (3-3) allowed the run in the ninth and suffered the loss.

Trailing 7-5 going into the ninth, the Cougars plated a pair of two-out runs to tie the score. John Stallcup and Mack Mitchell singled to start the inning, and both scored on a two-out hit by Ryan Niedzwiedz, who was thrown out trying to make second base.

It was Niedzwiedz who put the Cougars on top in the first with his team-leading eighth home run of the year for a 1-0 SIUE lead.

A bases loaded walk and a throwing error helped SIU Carbondale score four times in the bottom of the inning. Single runs in the second and fourth innings gave the Salukis a 6-1 advantage.

The Cougars put runners on with a walk and a hit in the sixth inning before Ethan Willoughby drove home a run with an infield hit to cut the lead to 6-2.

The Salukis then loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth on two singles and a hit batter. A bases loaded walk brought home another run to push the SIUC lead back to five runs.

SIUE trimmed the lead back to 7-5 with three runs in the seventh inning. After loading the bases without a hit, Daniel Gierer scored on a wild pitch.  Zack Floyd scored on a single by Lucas Spence and Mack Mitchell scored on a groundout by Drew Mize.

Niedzwiedz and Mitchell each had a pair of hits for the Cougars. Niedzwiedz finished with three RBIs.

Joseph Martin stuck out four in 1.2 scoreless innings in relief, allowing SIUE the chance to get back in the game.

SOUTHEAST MISSOURI 5, MISSOURI STATE 3
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.
-  Southeast Missouri Baseball (26-23) picked up win number 26 on Tuesday night with a 5-3 win over in-state foe Missouri State (19-29) after a 1:12 rain delay at Capaha Field.
 
Play was suspended in the bottom of the third inning due to a storm that passed through the Cape Girardeau area with the Redhawks winning, 2-1.
 
LHP Ethan Osborne (1-3) picked up his first win of the season as he hurled 2.0 innings of scoreless baseball without allowing a hit. He punched out four Bears in his outing.
 
As a pitching staff, SEMO recorded a season-high 18 strikeouts in the contest. RHP Payton Lawrence started the contest and recorded a team-high seven strikeouts in 3.0 innings of work. He allowed just one run on one hit over 11 hitters faced.
 
SEMO got on the board in the second inning thanks to defensive miscues from the visitors. With the bases loaded, a wild pitch brought in Caleb Corbin from third base and a throwing error by the catcher scored Josh Cameron who was rounding third base on the wild pitch.
 
Two straight outs ended the inning, but SEMO led 2-0 after two innings.
 
With two outs in the third inning, MSU's Cody Kelly hit a solo home run to cut the SEMO lead in half.
 
After the rain delay subsided, both sides struggled offensively as the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings were scoreless frames on both sides.
 
The Redhawks tacked on some insurance in the home seventh thanks to a one-out, two-RBI single by Michael Mugan. Mugan scorched a base hit to center field to score Brooks Kettering and pinch-hitter Keoni Coloma.
 
Two batters prior to Mugan, Kettering singled through the right side to score the first run of the inning. After the sequence, SEMO led 5-1 entering the eighth inning.
 
MSU scored two runs in the eighth inning via a two-run home run by Kelly again got the Bears to within two.
 
RHP #7 Kyle Miller entered in the ninth inning and picked up his sixth save of the season to shut the door on MSU. Miller, who made his 79th appearance in a SEMO uniform, allowed just a hit, and struck out three hitters to end the game.
