TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Indiana State held Eastern Illinois to 31 percent shooting on Tuesday night as the Sycamores beat the Panthers 90-69.
EIU had good production early on from Ava Stoller and Abbie Boutilier. Stoller finished with 13 points, her third straight double figure scoring game for the Panthers.
Boutilier finished with nine points and six rebounds.
Indiana State led by two at the end of the first quarter extending that lead to five points at the half.
Clara Glad was 3-of-4 from 3-point range scoring 12 points. Sydney-James Desroches came off the bench to score 13 points.
Indiana State's offensive production came off the bench with three double figures scorers coming in as reserves. Tierney Kelsey scored 22 points with Jayci Allen adding 21.
EIU falls to 0-3. Indiana State improved to 1-1.
WESTERN ILLINOIS 68, NORTHERN ILLINOIS 50
DEKALB, Ill. - Western Illinois women's basketball improved to 2-0 on the season with a 68-50 victory over Northern Illinois Tuesday night inside the Convocation Center.
The Leathernecks outscored the Huskies in three of the four quarters, using a strong defensive effort and balanced offense to take control in the second half. Western held NIU to just seven points in the second quarter to build a 27-19 halftime lead, then pushed the advantage to double digits behind a 24-point fourth quarter.
Mia Nicastro powered Western Illinois with a double-double, scoring a game-high 23 points on 9-of-17 shooting while grabbing 11 rebounds and adding two blocks. Addi Brownfield contributed 13 points, nine rebounds, and four assists, while Allie Meadows added 12 points and two steals. Mallory Shetley chipped in 10 points and five boards.
As a team, the Leathernecks shot 45.3 percent from the floor and dominated the glass, out-rebounding NIU 40-25. Western also scored 34 points in the paint and forced 18 NIU turnovers that led to 12 points.
Emilie Sorensen led the Huskies with 17 points, while Nadechka Laccen added 10 points.
TENNESSEE TECH 63, MIDDLE TENNESSEE 54
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee Tech picked up a big win in a big way on Tuesday night as the Golden Eagle women came out strong in the third quarter to overpower Middle Tennessee, taking a thrilling 63-54 victory over the visiting Blue Raiders.
Tech (3-0) earned its first victory over Middle Tennessee since 2018 and will try to improve to 4-0 on Saturday as it travels to Kennesaw State.
True freshman LaReesha Cawthorn soared in the second half, going 7-for-7 from the field with a 3-pointer and adding a free throw for 16 of her 21 total points. In all, the freshman was 9-for-11 from the field and 2-for-3 from the stripe, collecting eight rebounds, an assist, a steal and two blocks.
Chloe Larry and Reghan Grimes both added 14 points – each collecting eight points in the second half. Larry was 4-for-9 from the field overall with seven rebounds, three assists and a steal, while Grimes was 6-for-16 with six rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block.
The Golden Eagles were scorching in the second half, shooting 53.3 percent in the third quarter and 54.5 in the fourth. Tech also found its stroke from downtown, hitting 6-for-9 (66.7 percent) in the second half after going 1-for-10 in the opening two quarters. The Golden Eagles' best scoring run stretched from the end of the third quarter and into the fourth as Tech scored 13 straight points.
Tech trailed the first quarter 21-13, but rallied in the second to make it a tight 31-26 game at the intermission. In the third quarter, though, the Golden Eagles outscored Middle Tennessee 22-11, then extended their lead in the fourth 15-12, holding a 12-point advantage at its peak with 3:29 remaining in the contest.
Yu Han Lin led the Blue Raiders with 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting and 3-for-7 at the line. Macie Phifer followed with 13 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, while Alayna Contreras added 12 points. Blair Baugus and Carsyn Swaney each had six points.
MISSOURI STATE 67, SOUTHEAST MISSOURI 57
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri Women's Basketball (1-2) fell to Missouri State (3-0), 67-57, on Tuesday night at the Show Me Center.
Faith Lee opened the scoring for Missouri State with a jumper assisted by Maycee James. Ainaya Williams contributed significantly for the Redhawks, scoring a layup and completing a three-point play with a free throw. Raissa Nsabua assisted on four Redhawks baskets, leading to a 6-0 fast break advantage. At the end of the first quarter, the Redhawks led 15–10.
Missouri State gained momentum early, taking the lead with a series of inside shots. The Redhawks countered with strong defensive plays, including two blocks by Kearra Jones and Zoey Rixter. Carmen Taylor's three-pointer, followed by consecutive baskets, helped regain the lead for the Redhawks. At halftime, the Bears held a narrow advantage, leading 31–26.
Faith Lee scored early with a jumper, assisted by Maycee James, giving the Bears a slight lead. The Bears capitalized on second-chance opportunities, with Cady Pauley contributing consecutive free throws after an offensive rebound. Lainie Douglas played a key role with both a block and a layup, allowing the Bears to extend the lead. At the end of the third quarter, the Bears led 50–37.
Lexi McCully opened the scoring for the Redhawks with a layup, cutting the deficit to 50–39. Aa'Mya Stacker added a layup in transition, assisted by Kearra Jones, to bring the score to 52–41. The Redhawks went on a scoring run, highlighted by two 3-pointers from McCully, narrowing the gap to 56–51. At the final buzzer, the Bears secured the win with a score of 67–57.
