COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Reagan Hurst was on fire against East Tennessee State before an injury tripped her up in the victory. After missing the game against No. 18 USC, Hurst returned to the starting lineup and didn't miss a beat as the graduate guard powered Tennessee Tech to a 68-55 victory over Lipscomb on Monday night.
Hurst finished the night shooting 50 percent from the field as she knocked down six of her 12 shots, including a 4-for-5 effort from 3-point range – missing her personal best by one. Hurst also went 2-for-3 at the line to finish the game with 18 points to lead all scorers.
Tech (5-2) also had double-digit scoring efforts from Reghan Grimes and Chloe Larry. Grimes scored 15 points with five rebounds, five assists and three steals. Larry had 12 points with six rebounds, four assists and three rebounds.
Cam Mathews also had eight points, while Maddy Newman had seven points and seven rebounds – both personal bests.
The Golden Eagles sank 11 3-pointers on 22 tries as Hurst hit four, Mathews and Larry a pair each, and one for Grimes, Lyriq Mastin and Newman.
Defensively, Tech was able to force Lipscomb into 19 turnovers in the game, converting those into 12 points. The Golden Eagles also controlled the glass, pulling down 37 rebounds to Lipscomb's 32. Tech had 12 offensive caroms as well.
Molly Heard led Lipscomb (2-5) with 16 points, while McKayla Miller had 14 points and seven rebounds with three blocks.
Tech used an 8-0 run in the first quarter to jump out to a 17-11 lead and extended the lead to 33-25 at the intermission. The Golden Eagles then put together a 9-0 and a 6-0 run together in the third quarter, outscoring Lipscomb 22-17. Both teams scored 13 points in the final 10 minutes.
