Lindenwood senior pitcher Josh Newell has been honored by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) academic awards program as a third-team Academic All-America.

He is the 321st OVC student-athlete to earn Academic All-America honors since the program began in the 1970s.

The long-running program honors student-athletes who excel on the court and who have maintained at least a 3.50 grade point average.

The senior posted a 4.00 in sport management. He is the 58th all-time OVC baseball player honored (the most of any sport) and he is the first Lindenwood student-athlete to earn the honor since the Lions joined the OVC four years ago.

During the 2026 season, he posted a 6-5 record with a 2.65 ERA, registering 63 strikeouts through a league-leading 102.0 innings pitched during the regular season. In conference play, he had the lowest ERA among starting pitchers with a mark of 2.53 and was named First Team All-OVC.

Newell was Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year in 2025 after posting a record of 10-2 with a 3.15 ERA and 58 strikeouts.  He recorded 12 starts of six innings or more during the year – including a pair of complete game shutouts – and led the team with 97 innings pitched.

He finished his career with 21 wins, which is second most for a Lindenwood player during the NCAA era, with a 3.97 ERA through a program record 297.1 innings pitched.

Newell was also an active member on campus and in the greater St. Charles community during his time at Lindenwood, volunteering with "Lions Late Night" and "Frozen Roar" sports management department initiatives, as well as with football and hockey operations and Marcy's Project, a non-profit organization who helps those in need across St. Charles County.

He was also selected to receive the Ohio Valley Conference's prestigious Scholar-Athlete Award for 2025-26.
