GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Western Illinois men's soccer team battled Green Bay throughout 90 minutes Friday night, responding to a second-half deficit with a goal and a strong late push before ultimately dropping a 2-1 decision to the Phoenix.

After a scoreless opening half, Green Bay broke through in the 53rd minute when Nathan Moua found the back of the net to give the Phoenix a 1-0 advantage.

The Leathernecks responded just over 11 minutes later. Ryan Wrobleski finished a chance in the 65th minute off an assist from Ty Duax, bringing Western Illinois level at 1-1.

Green Bay answered less than a minute later, with Luke Nicholson scoring in the 66th minute to put the Phoenix back in front, 2-1.

Western Illinois continued to battle and generated several opportunities in the final 15 minutes. Xavier Gagnon put two shots on target in the 87th and 89th minutes, but both were turned away by Green Bay goalkeeper Drew Swancutt. The Leathernecks continued to press in the closing seconds, adding attempts from Jason Hufnagle and Fabrizio Kasperiski.


NORTHERN ILLINOIS 2, EASTERN ILLINOIS 1
CHARLESTON, Ill. - Eastern Illinois men's soccer dropped a 2-1 decision to Northern Illinois on Saturday night at Lakeside Field. The Panthers battled throughout the match, holding the Huskies scoreless in the opening half before NIU scored twice in the second half. 

Both teams played to a scoreless draw through the opening 45 minutes. Eastern Illinois held an 8-8 advantage in shots during the first half, while goalkeeper Samuel Toruno made three saves to keep the Huskies off the scoreboard. 

NIU broke through in the 62nd minute when Vance Sheffield scored off an assist from teammate Stevan Ljubicic to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead. 

Northern Illinois added to its advantage in the 79th minute when Ljubicic found the back of the net, pushing the NIU lead to 2-0. 

The Panthers responded just over two minutes later when Bernardo Hanel scored his first goal of the season in the 81st minute, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Despite continued pressure from EIU, the Panthers were unable to find the equalizer before the final whistle. 

Eastern Illinois finished the night with an 18-13 advantage in shots and placed three shots on goal. The Panthers also earned seven corner kicks compared to four for the Huskies. 

Adam Boykin led the Panthers with three shots, while Sergej Misic added five shots. Hanel recorded EIU's lone goal of the night. 

Toruno played all 90 minutes in goal for EIU and finished with three saves. Northern Illinois goalkeeper Cayden Crawford made two saves to earn the win. 

With the loss, Eastern Illinois falls to 0-3-1 on the season, while Northern Illinois improves to 3-2-0.
