2016 OVC Women's Golf Championship
The 2016 OVC Women's Golf Championship was held April 18-20 at Hampton Cove on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Owens Cross Roads, Alabama (just outside of Huntsville). It marks the second-straight year the event was held at the venue (it will also be played there in 2017).
Hampton Cove, the northern gateway to the Trail, is a 54-hole facility with terrain that drastically changes from one side of the property to the other. Renovated in 2008, The Highlands course has been restored to its orginal Scottish Links design. Completely opposite in design is the River course, the only Robert Trent Jones layout without a single bunker. The River Course is a throwback to the way courses were built long ago. The dirt was merely pushed up to create the greens and tees, leaving all else, including massive oak trees, undisturbed. The OVC Championship will be contested on The Highlands course.
After a one-shot victory in 2015, Eastern Kentucky claimed its second-straight title and third crown in four years with an 18-shot victory over Tennessee Tech. It marked the fourth overall championship for the program.
