RICHMOND, Ky. - Former Eastern Kentucky University baseball star Josh Anderson has been called up to the Major Leagues by the Houston Astros and will be in uniform this afternoon when the club visits the Chicago Cubs at 2:20 p.m. CST.
The Somerset, Ky. native has spent his whole career with Astros organization after being drafted in the fourth round of the 2003 draft. Anderson hit .273 with a team-high 139 hits and 40 stolen bases in 131 games for the AAA Round Rock Express this season.
In 2006 he led the Astros AA affiliate Corpus Christi Hooks to the Texas League Championship after leading the team in stolen bases (43), hits (173) and at-bats (561).
Anderson led the Colonels to a runner-up finish in the 2003 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament in his final season at Eastern Kentucky, earning conference Player of the Year honors and becoming the school’s first-ever Louisville Slugger First Team All-American after leading the nation with 57 steals.
