MURRAY STATE 3, MOREHEAD STATE 1

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. ? Third-seeded Murray State defeated No. 2 Morehead State to advance to the championship match of the 2008 Ohio Valley Conference Volleyball Tournament. The Racers, who won their eight straight match, will play for the tournament title for the first time since the 2003 season. The Eagles finished the season with 23-8 overall record while going 14-4 in the OVC.

 

Sara Hayden led Murray State with 18 kills on a .571 hitting percentage. Ashley Nenninger and Logan Su each tallied 12 kills in the match. Kayleah Sauer recorded a match-high 21 digs while Alison Mugler had 19 and Heather Norris added 15.

 

Four Eagles reached double-digits in kills with Kaitlin Craven leading the way with 15.  Ashley Doscher added 13 followed by Erin Peak with 12 and Emma Keough with 10. Katelyn Barbour led the Morehead State defense with 20 digs while Kristina Schoo added 16. Craven also had 14 digs to record the double-double.

 

Murray State will play the winner of the Tennessee Tech/Austin Peay match on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. CT.

 

TENNESSEE TECH 3, AUSTIN PEAY 0

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. ? Top-seeded Tennessee Tech defeated No. 4 Austin Peay, 3-0 (25-12, 25-22, 25-21) to advance to the championship match of the OVC Tournament. The Golden Eagles will face Murray State on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. CT. The Lady Govs finished the season with a 22-11 overall mark while going 13-5 in the OVC.

 

Caitlin Bullock led the Golden Eagles with 13 kills while Leah Meffert tallied 12 kills to go along with 12 digs. Katie Kenline recorded 10 digs while Kappy Lang added 10. Lang also dished out 42 assists in the match.

 

Stephanie Champine paced the Lady Govs with eight kills while Caroline Frens led the defense with 11 digs.
