AFCA Executive Director Grant Teaff to Be Special Guest at OVC Football Media Day

Hall of Fame coach and current Executive Director of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), Grant Teaff will be a special guest at this year's Ohio Valley Conference Football Media Day activities.

Teaff, currently the Executive Director of the AFCA, a position he has held since 1994, is best known for his distinguished coaching career at Baylor, where in 21 seasons as head coach he won 128 games and two Southwest Conference championships.  Teaff’s career has centered on football since he took his first coaching job at Lubbuck High School in 1956.

Teaff will meet with all nine OVC head football coaches during the morning on Tuesday, July 22 before making an appearance later the day at the OVC Football Media Day which will be held at LP Field in Nashville. The event will be streamed live and also available on-demand for free at OVCSports.com. The live segment is scheduled to get underway around 12:15 p.m. and can be accessed through links on the front of OVCSports.com.

Teaff coached 35 seasons at the college level, included head coaching stops at McMurry, 1960-65, and Angelo State, 1969-71, before landing at Baylor in 1972 where he stayed until his retirement in 1992.  While at Baylor, Teaff turned a program that had won just seven games in the five seasons before his arrival, into a conference champion in just three seasons.  Teaff led the Bears to eight bowl games, including two Cotton Bowl appearances, posted 10 wins against conference powerhouse Texas, even breaking a 17 year drought against the Longhorns, and was voted Southwest Conference Coach of the Year six times.

Teaff made a seamless transition from being a football coach to being a nationally known author, penning five books on coaching and leadership, motivational speaker and effective administrator for the AFCA.  Teaff’s accolades since taking his current position include being voted one of the most powerful administrators of college athletics by Sporting News and being named one of the most influential people in college sports by Street & Smith’s Sports Business Journal.

In addition to his sports credentials, Teaff is  active in his community, supporting Muscular Dystrophy, Multiple Sclerosis Society, and the Red Cross.
