JACKSONVILLE STATE 3, MURRAY STATE 1
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - Top-seeded Jacksonville State defeated No. 4 Murray State, 3-1 (25-23, 20-25, 25-19, 25-18) to advance to the championship match of the 2009 Ohio Valley Conference Volleyball match.
Caitlin Vorbeck led the team with 14 kills while Britteny Whitten chipped in 13. Whitten also had 17 kills for the double-double. Kara Slater added 11 kills while Jen Meyer and Alyx Schulte each had 10. Lauren Harkins paced the JSU defense with 31 kills as Brooke Schumacher registered 12.
Logan Su led the Racers with 11 kills while Ashley Nenninger had 10. Cassie Chesney posted a team-high 26 digs while Kelli Johnson and Lydia Orf had 16 and 12, respectively.
Murray State concluded the season with a 13-18 record while going 11-7 in the OVC.
MOREHEAD STATE 3, AUSTIN PEAY 2
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - Third-seeded Morehead State defeated No. 2 Austin Peay, 3-2 (25-21, 25-22, 23-25, 21-25, 15-12), to advance to the championship match of the OVC Tournament. The Eagles will play top-seeded Jacksonville State.
Morehead State's Annie Gruenschleager led the team with 14 kills while Ellie Roberson and Kaitlin Craven each recorded 13 kills. Holly Evans had 11 kills and Emma Keough tallied 11. Kristina Schoo led the Eagle defense with 32 digs while Kristie Brangers had 18. Craven chipped in 17 digs as Liz Schuler had 13.
Stephanie Champine led the Lady Govs with 18 kills to go along with 14 digs. Paige Economos paced the defense with 21 digs. Kirstin Distler had 18 digs while Sarah Alisaleh had 12 and Kayla Granthan had 11.
Austin Peay finished the season 22-9 while going 15-3 in the OVC.
