OVC Players of the Week- Sept. 7, 2010

Offensive
Stephanie Palmer, F, 5'2, Fr., Marion, Ill. - Southeast Missouri
Palmer scored her first collegiate goal in the 1-0 win over Washington (Mo.). She posted the game-winner in the 20th minute of the match. Against Ball State, she netted a goal in the 75th minute to force overtime. Palmer recorded three shots two of which were on-goal.

Defensive
Emily Bielaga, M/D, 5'9, Jr., Naperville, Ill. - Jacksonville State
Bielaga paced the Gamecock defense in the 2-0 win over Mississippi Valley State. She assisted on the first goal against the Devilettes.

Goalkeeper
Lyndsay Vance, GK, 5'8, Fr., Versailles, Ky. - Eastern Kentucky
Vance made her first career start at Valparaiso and made nine saves recording her first career shutout by playing all 110 minutes. It marked the first time this season that Valparaiso had been shutout. Vance also played 18 minutes against Wright State and didn't allow a goal.

2010 OVC Women's Soccer Team Notes

AUSTIN PEAY (5-1-0 overall, 0-0-0 OVC): Austin Peay defeated South Alabama, 1-0, to run its win streak to five games before dropping its first match of the year to Troy, 5-2. The Lady Govs also saw their scoreless streak come to an end at 456:18 minutes. Sophomore Jocelyn Murdoch scored two goals against Troy. It was the second game this season that Murdoch has scored two goals in a match the other coming against VMI. Austin Peay will travel to the Adidas/JSU Classic this weekend where it will face Southern on Friday and Southeastern Louisiana on Sunday.

EASTERN ILLINOIS (2-3-1 overall, 0-0-0 OVC): Eastern Illinois played to a scoreless tie with Green Bay and dropped a 2-1 game to Indiana State in double overtime. Three of the Panthers fist six games this season have gone to overtime. Senior goalkeeper Kaylin Lorbert made a season-high seven saves and posted her second shutout of the season versus Green Bay. She finished the week with 11 saves in 219:34 minutes of action. Junior Elise Farrelly scored her first collegiate goal in the first half against Indiana State to end the Panthers scoring drought at 316 minutes. Junior defender Sam Balek played all 220 minutes for the Panthers this week. Eastern Illinois will host Belmont on Saturday and UMKC on Sunday.

EASTERN KENTUCKY (1-4-1 overall, 0-0-0 OVC): Eastern Kentucky fell to Wright State, 3-0, and played to a scoreless draw with Valparaiso last week. Freshman goalkeeper Lyndsay Vance made her first career start against Valparaiso and made nine saves without allowing a goal. Vance also played 18 scoreless minutes versus Wright State. The Colonels will host Western Kentucky on Sunday.

JACKSONVILLE STATE (1-4-1 overall, 0-0-0 OVC):  Jacksonville State split its two matches last weekend, posting its first shutout of the season against Mississippi Valley State (2-0) before playing to a 1-1 tie with Jackson State. It marked the first draw for JSU since the 2008 season. Junior Chelsea Pelletier scored the first goal of the game with Mississippi Valley State. Junior Emily Bielage paced the Gamecock defense against MVSU and also assisted on the first goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Ali Koenig manned the net for both matches last weekend and made four saves while allowing just one goal. Jacksonville State will host the Adidas/JSU Classic this weekend. The Gamecocks will play Southeastern Louisiana on Friday and Southern on Sunday.

MOREHEAD STATE (1-4-0 overall, 0-0-0 OVC): Morehead State dropped a 3-1 contest to visiting Wright State. Senior Erin Adams led the Eagles offense as she scored the lone goal. She registered six shots with four being on-goal. Morehead State will travel to the Border Classic this weekend where they will face USC Upstate on Friday and Gardner Webb on Sunday.

MURRAY STATE (1-3-2 overall, 0-0-0 OVC ): Murray State dropped a pair of road matches last week. The Racers lost a 2-1 overtime decision at Tulsa before a 4-2 lost at 18th ranked Oklahoma State. Murray State's goals came from three different players, two scoring their first of the year. The Racers will host IPFW on Friday and travel to SIU Edwardsville on Sunday. The match with IPFW can be seen on OVCSports.TV.

SOUTHEAST MISSOURI (3-2-0 overall, 0-0-0 OVC): Southeast Missouri went 1-1 last week, defeating Washington (Mo.), 1-0, and falling to Ball State, 3-2, in double overtime. Freshman Stephanie Palmer scored two goals last week including the game winner against Washington. Junior defender Nikki Edwards extended her streak to 37 straight starts. Freshman goalkeeper Ashton Aubuchon made nine saves in 192:21 minutes in net last week, including recording the shutout against Washington. Senior Ashley Runion moved into second place on the school's all-time shots list. The Redhawks will host Stetson on Friday.

SIU EDWARDSVILLE (4-0-0 overall): SIU Edwardsville moved to 4-0 on the season with wins over Ball State (2-0) and IPFW (4-3) last week. Sophomore Kristen Dailey scored a pair of goals in the win over IPFW. The Cougars will travel to Western Illinois on Friday and host Murray State on Sunday.

TENNESSEE TECH (1-4-0 overall, 0-0-0 OVC): Tennessee Tech fell to Vanderbilt, 2-0, before picking up its first win of the season with 3-1 victory over UNC Asheville. Sophomore Kerri Reid recorded a pair of assists in the win over the Bulldogs. The Golden Eagles will travel to the Samford Tournament this weekend where they will face Georgia Southern on Friday and host Samford on Sunday.

UT MARTIN (1-4-1 overall, 0-0-0 OVC): UT Martin dropped a pair of matches last week, falling to CSU Bakersfield, 1-0, and Loyola Marymount, 2-0. Freshman defender Morgan Brandon started in both Skyhawks' games over the weekend. She was part of the defensive unit that gave up just three goals in 180 minutes of action. Junior goalkeeper Lauren Mackenzie made a career-high 13 saves versus CSU Bakersfield. She finished the two matches with 19 saves while allowing three scores. UT Martin will return home to host Evansville on Friday and IPFW on Sunday.
