CINCINNATI, Ohio - Host Xavier opened the first half on an 11-0 scoring spurt and used a 19-3 run to begin the second period as the Musketeers defeated the Morehead State women’s basketball team, 73-58, Wednesday at the Cintas Center.

MSU fell to 1-3, while XU moved to 3-1.

Junior guard Terrice Robinson scored a team-best 16 points to lead the Eagles, while sophomore forward Casey Ryans dropped in a trio of three-pointers and tallied a career-high 12 points. Sophomore guard Almesha Jones netted 10 points, and junior guard Allie Turner handed out a career-high four assists.

Xavier’s Shatyra Hawkes hit 8-of-11 from the field and 7-of-8 from the charity stripe for a game-best 24 points. Lakeisha Crouch notched 14 points. Xavier managed 49 percent shooting for the game, including 57 percent efficiency (13-of-23) in the second stanza.

The hosts tipped off the first half on the 11-0 run, but the Eagles quickly erased the runaway with an 11-2 run of their own to cut it 13-11. The tide shifted back in the Musketeers’ favor, however, as they connected on the next eight points to lead 21-13 with 8:26 remaining.

MSU was able to trim the disadvantage down to six (26-20), but Xavier went on to lead by as much as 14 (34-20) in the half before taking a 35-28 margin into the break.

Trailing by seven, the Eagles saw the hosts score 19 of the first 22 second-half points as the Musketeers built as much as a 22-point lead (56-34). MSU trimmed the margin down to as low as 11 (64-53) with 2:47 left but could not find the complete comeback formula.

Morehead State’s next action is at No. 6 Kentucky on Friday. Tipoff at Memorial Coliseum is set for 4 p.m. ET
