WRIGHT STATE 53, MOREHEAD STATE 46
DAYTON, Ohio -
Kim Demmings scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, and host Wright State thwarted a comeback effort by Morehead State as the Eagle women’s basketball team absorbed a 53-46 setback at the Nutter Center Sunday night.

WSU moved to 6-6, while MSU dropped to 4-10.

The Eagles trailed by 12 with 6:43 left but used a flurry of three-pointers to cut the WSU lead to just two before late free throws settled the score.

Junior guard Terrice Robinson led MSU with 18 points, including four triples – her 10th game in double figures. Junior guard Allie Turner registered 10 points, and freshman guard Kelsey Funderburgh helped MSU rally with a trio of late-game three-pointers for a career-high nine points.

Demmings’ bucket gave the hosts a 43-31 lead with less than seven minutes, but Funderburgh nailed three straight trifectas, and Robinson added one, and MSU found itself down just 45-43. Robinson hit her fourth three-ball with 1:17 left, but the Raiders connected on all six of their charity tosses to seal their victory.

The opening half featured six lead changes and four ties. Wright State led 7-3 early, but sophomore forward Mackenzie Arledge capped an 11-2 Eagle run with a three-pointer at 11:40, and MSU had its largest advantage at 14-9. Demmings scored the final five points for her team late in the half, and WSU took a 26-22 lead to the break.

WSU held MSU to 30 percent (14-of-47) for the game and hit just 32 percent (18-of-56) itself. The Raiders held a 47-30 edge in rebounds. MSU turned the ball over only 10 times.

Morehead State begins Ohio Valley Conference action on Saturday as it hosts Eastern Illinois at 5:15 p.m. ET.
