Canaan Named First-Team All-American by The Sporting News

Murray State junior guard Isaiah Canaan has been named a first-team All-American by The Sporting News, the publication announced on Monday.

Canaan was joined on the first-team squad by Kentucky's Anthony Davis, Michigan State's Draymond Green, Kansas' Thomas Robinson and Ohio State's Jared Sullinger.

Canaan ranks 4th nationally in 3-point percentage (47.3%), 11th in 3-pointers made/game (3.1) and 23rd in scoring (19.2).

Canaan was named the OVC Player of the Year and a first-team All-OVC selection this season, marking the second-straight year he has been named first-team All-OVC. He was OVC Freshman of the year in 2010.

On Monday he was also named one of 15 finalists for the John R. Wooden Award which is given to the National Player of the Year by the Los Angeles Athletic Club. He is also a finalist for the Oscar Robertson Award (given to the nation's top player by the USBWA), the Naismith Award and the Bob Cousy Award (given to the nation's top point guard).

On Monday Canaan was also named an All-District selection by the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) while his coach Steve Prohm was named the USBWA District IV Coach of the Year. District IV includes all Division I teams in the states of Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Florida.
