2012 adidas® OVC Players of the Week - Aug. 27
 
Offensive:
Kelsey Anderson, OH, 5'7, Sr. - Louisville, Ky. - Jacksonville State
Anderson was named MVP of the ISTAP Collegiate Cup hosted by Alabama State as she helped Jacksonville State to a 4-0 record. She recorded three double-doubles in four matches. She recorded 13 kills and 14 digs versus Stetson and followed that up with 12 kills and 11 digs against Southeast Missouri. In the match with South Dakota, she tallied 12 kills and 11 digs. She finished the tourney with eight kills, five digs and two service aces against Alabama State. She posted a .314 hitting percentage over the four matches.

Lundstrom recorded 5.44 digs per set in the three matches of the Belmont Invitational. She was named to the all-tournament team for her efforts. Lundstrom totaled 49 digs, including 22 in the win over Alabama A&M.

Moss tallied 146 assists as Tennessee State went 3-1 at the ISTAP Collegiate Cup hosted by Alabama State. She had over 30 assists in each match, including 49 versus Southeastern Louisiana. She hit .375 for the tournament to help her team to a .245 clip.

2012 Ohio Valley Conference Volleyball Team Notes
 
Austin Peay (0-0 OVC; 1-3 overall): Austin Peay went 1-3 at the Memphis Invitational to kick of the 2012 season. The Lady Govs defeated host Memphis (25-17, 20-25, 25-19, 24-26, 15-11), before falling to UALR (25-13, 23-25, 23-25, 25-23, 13-15), Eastern Michigan (24-26, 18-25, 18-25) and Southern Illinois (14-25, 16-25, 21-25). Sophomore Hillary Plybon was named to the all-tournament team after recording 44 kills and a .429 hitting percentage over the four matches. She had a career-best 19-kill performance against Memphis. Freshman Jada Stotts posted 40 kills (2.67 kps) during the tourney, including a career-best 19 against UALR. Junior Lauren Henderson added 35 kills on the weekend, while freshman Samantha Strother made her first start against Eastern Michigan and tallied 10 kills. Senior outside hitter Nikki Doyle had 15 kills against Memphis but was moved to libero for the remaining matches of the weekend. Austin Peay will travel to Western Kentucky on Tuesday before playing in the Adidas Invitational hosted by Missouri State this weekend.
 
Belmont (0-0 OVC; 1-2 overall): Belmont opened its first season in the Ohio Valley Conference with a 1-2 record at its own Belmont Invitational. The Bruins defeated Alabama A&M (25-22, 25-18, 27-25) before falling to Northern Colorado (19-25, 19-25, 18-25) and TCU (21-25, 13-25, 14-25). Junior Jamie Lundstrom was named to the all-tournament team for her efforts. She paced the defense with 49 digs over the three matches, including 22 against Alabama A&M. Belmont will travel to the USTA invitational this week where it will face UTSA and UTEP beginning on Thursday.
 
Eastern Illinois (0-0 OVC; 2-1 overall): Eastern Illinois kicked off the 2012 campaign going 2-1 at the DePaul Invitational. The Panthers defeated DePaul (25-20, 25-19, 22-25, 25-22) and Indiana State (25-17, 25-19, 20-25, 23-25, 15-8) while also losing to Butler (19-25, 30-32, 17-25). Freshman Stephanie Wallace earned all-tournament honors as she racked up 47 digs over the three matches. She recorded 25 digs in her first collegiate match against DePaul. Senior Alison Berens posted a .315 hitting percentage and 34 kills in the tourney. Freshman setter Marah Bradbury dished out 62 assists and recorded a .375 hitting percentage on the weekend. Eastern Illinois will travel to the Oakland Invitational where it will play Iowa on Friday and Oakland and Toledo on Saturday.
 
Eastern Kentucky (0-0 OVC; 2-1 overall): Eastern Kentucky went 2-1 at the Spartan Showcase hosted by Michigan State to kickoff the season. The Colonels defeated Youngstown State (19-25, 20-25, 26-24, 25-15, 16-14) and McNeese State (25-16, 25-21, 25-13) before falling to Michigan State (21-25, 24-26, 10-25). Junior Ashley Edmond posted double-digit kills in each of the three matches, including a match-high 15 versus McNeese State. She also tallied 17 digs in the tourney. Junior Kelsey Kuehner recorded 11 blocks over the three matches, including six versus Youngstown State. Also against the Penguins, Kuehner has 12 kills. Alexis Plagens had 12 kills versus YSU and added 10 against McNeese State. Dena Ott had 19 digs against the Spartans. Eastern Kentucky will play in the Shamrock Invitational hosted by Notre Dame this weekend. The Colonels will play Buffalo, UAB and Notre Dame.
 
Jacksonville State (0-0 OVC; 4-0 overall): Jacksonville State went 4-0 to win the ISTAP Collegiate Cup hosted by Alabama State. It’s the best start for the Gamecocks since the 2006 season. JSU defeated Stetson (21-25, 25-14, 25-15, 26-28, 15-13), Southeastern Louisiana (25-21, 25-17, 25-28), South Dakota (17-25, 12-25, 25-21, 25-23, 15-13) and Alabama State (25-16, 25-17, 25-18). Senior Kelsey Anderson was named the tournament MVP after recording three double-doubles in four matches. She tallied 45 kills and 41 digs in the tourney. Junior Kelly Cole led the team with 66 digs over the weekend. She posted 24 versus South Dakota. Junior Abbey Heredia dished out 142 assists to go with 13 kills over the four matches. Jacksonville State will play in the Auburn Invitational this weekend where they will face Georgia Southern, High Point and host Auburn.

Morehead State  (0-0 OVC; 0-3 overall): Morehead State went winless at the Active Ankle Challenge in Louisville. The Eagles fell to No. 3 Penn State (18-25, 15-25, 14-25), Louisville (21-25, 25-20, 18-25, 16-25) and Western Kentucky (19-25, 16-25, 17-25). Senior Ellie Roberson recorded 23 of her 41 kills against Louisville. Senior Annie Gruenschlaeger averaged 1.50 blocks per set, including eight versus the Cardinals. Junior Leslie Schellahas totaled 20 digs in the Louisville match. Morehead State will welcome Xavier on Tuesday before hosting the Comfort Inn and Suites Invitational this weekend where it will play Northern Kentucky, Evansville and Alabama A&M.
 
Murray State (0-0 OVC; 0-3 overall): Murray State went 0-3 at the IPFW Invitational, falling to IPFW (12-25, 14-25, 8-25), Kent State (17-25, 22-25, 25-27) and Cleveland State (19-25, 28-26, 20-25, 16-25). Freshman Emily Schmahl earned all-tournament team honors as she paced the Racers with 31 kills and a .224 hitting percentage over the three matches. Junior Michelle Lazorchak tallied 14 blocks to lead the team. Senior Lia Havilil dished out 94 of the team's 102 assists last week. She also recorded 23 digs and had two blocks. Murray State will travel to the LaQuinta Inn & Suites Highlander Invitational this weekend where it will play The Citadel, St. Francis (Pa.) and host Radford.
 
Southeast Missouri (0-0 OVC; 3-1 overall): Southeast Missouri went 3-1 to win the Hawkeye Challenge to open up the 2012 campaign. The Redhawks defeated Valparaiso (14-25, 26-24, 25-15, 25-18), Iowa (27-29, 25-23, 25-19, 13-25, 15-13), Chicago State (25-14, 26-24, 25-14) and fell to South Dakota State (15-25, 25-25, 22-25). The win at Iowa marked Southeast Missouri's first win over a Big Ten opponent since 2002. Junior Emily Coon was named the tournament MVP after recording 38 kills and hitting at a .281 clip. Juniors Colleen Yarber and Julie Shives were named to the all-tournament team. Shives dished out 146 assists to go with 13 kills and 49 digs tourney the tournament. Yarber finished the weekend with 47 kills and 56 digs. Junior Berkley Idel recorded 75 digs to lead the team over the four matches. Southeast Missouri will travel to the Milwaukee Invitational  this weekend where it will play Western Michigan, Eastern Carolina and host Milwaukee.
 
SIUE (0-0 OVC; 1-2 overall): SIUE went 1-2 at its own Cougar Classic to kick off the 2012 season. The Cougars fell to Montana State (17-25, 25-21, 13-25, 24-26) and Santa Clara (22-25, 25-22, 17-25, 10-25) before defeating Western Illinois (25-15, 25-18, 22-25, 25-18). Junior Kelesy Augustine and senior Sammi Minton were named to the all-tournament team. Augustine recorded 32 kills, 15 blocks and a .276 hitting percentage. Minton dished out 121 assists while averaging 2.25 digs per set. Sophomore Chelsea Colclasure led all liberos with 5.25 digs per set in the tourney. She recorded 22 digs in the first two matches and added 28 versus WIU. Brooke Smith led the team with 36 kills over the weekend, with a team-best 16 coming in the victories over Western Illinois. SIUE will travel to the Jessica Barkman Memorial Tournament this weekend in Terre Haute, Ind. where it will face Western Illinois, host Indiana State and Loyola (Ill.).
 
Tennessee State (0-0 OVC; 3-1 overall): Tennessee State went 3-1 at the ISTAP College Cup hosted by Alabama State. The Tigers fell to South Dakota (19-25, 21-21, 21-25, 15-25) before defeating Alabama State (25-16, 25-15, 25-14), Southeastern Louisiana (20-25, 25-17, 25-16, 25-14) and Stetson (22-25, 25-15, 25-17, 26-24). Sophomore Naomi Wells earned all-tournament team honors after recording 64 kills over the four matches. Senior Britani Hathron tallied 61 digs, including 17 versus Southeastern Louisiana and 19 against Stetson. Junior Erika Moss dished out over 30 assists in each match and recorded 49 against Southeastern Louisiana. TSU will travel to the Portland Nike Invitational this weekend where it will play host Portland, UNLV and Idaho State.
 
Tennessee Tech (0-0 OVC; 1-2 overall): Tennessee Tech went 1-2 at the Chattanooga's Country Inn & Suites Invitational. The Golden Eagles defeated Alcorn State (25-5, 25-20, 25-7) and fell to USC Upstate (24-26, 17-25, 13-25) and Chattanooga (16-25, 15-25, 25-27). It marks the first time Tech has recorded a victory in its season opening tournament. Junior Natalie Penrod recorded 35 kills and a .260 hitting percentage to earn a spot on the all-tournament team. Sophomore Courtney Smith recorded 48 digs over the three matches. Smith is stepping into the libero position for the first time taking over for Allison May who is out with an injury. Tennessee Tech will travel to the Xavier Invitational this weekend where it will face host Xavier, Marquette and Ole Miss.
 
UT Martin (0-0 OVC; 0-3 overall): UT Martin fell to Arkansas (16-25, 18-25, 19-25), Kansas (19-25, 17-25, 23-25) and Northwestern State (17-25, 21-25, 25-21, 21-25) at the Arkansas Invitational. Freshman Amanda Crask recorded 14 kills, 47 assists and a .433 hitting percentage over the three matches. Senior Kasey Elswick became the eighth player in OVC history to record 2,000 career digs over the weekend. She tallied 52 digs in the tourney, including 23 against Northwestern State. Senior Kelly Hogan led the team with 24 kills while freshman Dallas Zimmernam paced the squad with eight blocks. UT Martin will host the First State Skyhawk Invitational this weekend as it will play Troy, Wright State and DePaul.
