JACKSONVILLE STATE 2, STETSON 0
TROY, Ala. -  The Jacksonville State women's soccer team turned in its third-straight shut out en route to a 2-0 win over Stetson in the opening match of the Trojan Classic on Friday afternoon.

The win pushed the Gamecocks' winning streak to four straight and they moved to 4-1 on the season and equals the best start for the program since 2002.  All four of JSU's victories have come on the road and will conclude the early-season road trip on Sunday in the final game of the Troy University-hosted event against Louisiana Tech.  The Jax State-Tech contest is set for 3 p.m.  Stetson fell to 1-3 on the season.  JSU now holds a 5-1-0 lead all-time with the Hatters, having won the last five duels.

JSU's offense was shouldered by a pair of freshmen as Brianna Boutziouvis and Kelsey Bright netted the pair of goals.  Even though Stetson posted nine more shots (20-11), the Gamecocks were productive with six shots on-goal and putting the ball in the back of the net on two occasions.  Boutziouvis put Jax State on the scoreboard almost six minutes deep into the afternoon affair.  The Ottawa, Ontario, Canada-forward was successful on a one-on-one situation with a SU defender for the goal.

With Boutziouvis' goal looking like the only scoring of the contest, JSU added some breathing room in the 71st minute with Bright's goal.  She disposed the ball in the net from about 30 yards out on the back corner and edge of the box.   The goal was the Kingwood, Texas-native's first on the collegiate level.

Three JSU players carded multiple shot attempts, led by Bright and Jackie Rush with three each.  Boutziouvis added another shot attempt later in the contest.

In the four wins, the offense has sizzled with 11 goals and attempting an average of 17.5 shots per contest.  The Gamecocks have registered 38 on goal scoring opportunities, while limiting the opposition to just 15.  Over the same span, Jax State is averaging 2.75 goals per match.

The Jax State defense withstood a charge from the Hatters in the final 45 minutes as they were credited with 11 of their 20 shots in the second half.  JSU senior goalkeeper Katelyn Geddings finished with four saves.  Geddings moved to 4-1 on the season and recorded her second shut out of the year.  The Warrior, Ala.-product moved into third-place on JSU's career shut out list with seven, matching former Gamecock Emily Bryan (1996-98).

The last time JSU turned in three consecutive shut out victories came during the 2009 campaign when it blanked Southern (La.), Alabama A&M and Nicholls State in succession.  The Gamecocks have not surrendered a goal in over 320 minutes, dating back to the first half of the Georgia State contest.

WESTERN MICHIGAN 4, MURRAY STATE 1
KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Jenna Finke scored her first career goal and also netted Murray State’s first goal of 2012 in the Racers 4-1 loss to Western Michigan on Friday afternoon.

Finke’s goal came in the 20th minute of the contest on a two-on-one break off of a Western Michigan turnover. Assisting on the goal was team captain Jenelle Cunningham who returned from injury to see her first action of the regular season.

Western Michigan (3-1) used a balanced attack in the match to get the victory, as four separate girls scored goals. The Broncos also had four different players record assists on those goals.

Although they didn’t get the win, the Racers are beginning to regain some health. In addition to Cunningham returning from injury, Jill Russell also made her first appearance of the season in the loss for MSU.

The Racers (0-3) return to action on Sunday as they finish their two-game weekend road trip at Indiana State in a 1 p.m. game.

OHIO 1, MOREHEAD STATE 0
MOREHEAD, Ky. - Senior midfielder Cat Rogers scored her fourth goal of the season in the 88th minute to lift the Ohio University soccer team over Morehead State, 1-0, on Friday evening at Jayne Stadium.

The win improved the Bobcats to 2-3, while the Eagles fell to 0-4 on the season.

Sophomore midfielder Caity Fox led MSU with three shots and freshman goalkeeper Elizabeth Floyd had three saves.
MSU outshot the Bobcats 10-9 and posted a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Eagles return to action on Sunday when they continue their home stand against St. Francis (Pa.). Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m. ET.

LOUISVILLE 4, SOUTHEAST MISSOURI 0
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Louisville used three second-half goals to open up a slim halftime lead and send the Southeast Missouri soccer team to a 4-0 loss in the Tropical Smoothie Invitational on Friday night.

The Redhawks (1-3-1) trailed 1-0 at the break, but the Cardinals (3-0) big second half broke an impressive Southeast streak. The score marks the first time since Nov. 11, 2010 that the Redhawks allowed more than two goals in a match, a streak that lasted 23 contests.

Erin Yenney scored the lone goal of the first half, striking from long range into the top corner of the net in the 18th minute. Louisville, who entered the contest ranked 14th in the Soccer America top 25 poll, entered the break with the lead on the scoreboard and a 9-3 advantage in shot attempts.

The score lasted until the 55th minute when Andrea Distler drilled another shot top corner from 18-yards out to put the Cardinals up two goals, the first time this season the Redhawks have trailed by more than one goal.

Louisville put the contest away with two goals less than three minutes apart. In the 69th minute, Katie Walz executed a give and go with Nicole Mitchell, who snuck a shot far side into the post. Lauren Nash fit another shot in off the far post in the 72nd minute, converting a feed from Megan Berberich.

The Cardinals outshot the Redhawks, 19-5, and owned a slim, 5-4, advantage in corner kicks.

Renee Kertz made her fourth-straight start in goal and stopped five of nine shots over 79 minutes. Ashton Aubuchon relieved Kertz and stopped one shot. Chloe Kiefer made three save for Louisville in 85 minutes, before being replaced by Halle Pyle down the stretch.

Southeast concludes its weekend of the Tropical Smoothie Invitational on Sunday when it takes on host Kentucky at 1:30 p.m. CT.

TENNESSEE TECH 3, NORTHERN KENTUCKY 2
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee Tech soccer team offense may need to be registered as a lethal weapon following the Golden Eagles 3-2 win over Northern Kentucky Friday evening.

With 23 shots, including nine on goal, the Tech offense exploded for three goals in the contest, pushing the Golden Eagles' record on the 2012 season to 2-2-1. Eight different players recorded a shot-on-goal in the contest.

Junior forward Ellie Iaciofano kicked off the scoring for Tech, scoring in the 26th minute off a beautiful shot from the right side of the box, landing it just under the crossbar in the upper left corner of the goal. Fellow junior, Amanda Koch nabbed her second assist of the season on the goal.

Northern Kentucky would answer back with less than three minutes left in the first half, tying the match at 1-1 off a Martha Staab goal.

Senior midfielder Sarah Gawthrop put Tech back on top in the 72nd minute with an absolute perfect corner kick, bending it into the far left corner of the goal. It marked Gawthrop's first goal of the season and gave the Golden Eagles some much needed momentum.

Just a minute and a half later, Iaciofano added her second goal of the game, and third of the season, off a fantastic pair of passes from senior midfielders Kris Cambron and Kerri Reid. The goal would prove to be the game-winner, Iaciofano's first of the season. She now leads the Golden Eagles with three goals and seven total points on the season. The junior forward matched a season-high with three goals and scored her first career multi-goal game.

The Norse would add a goal late in the second half, but the Golden Eagle lead would prove to be too insurmountable to overcome.

Freshman goalkeeper Jordan Brown made four saves in the match and wasn't really challenged until late in the game. She made an incredible diving save with less than 30 second to play to earn her second career win.

Kris Cambron moved into a tie for eighth on the Tennessee Tech all-time list for career assists with eight. Brown forced a tie for tenth on the Tech all-time list for career saves with 31, despite being just a freshman. Senior defender Leigh Heffner, who played every minute of the match for the fifth time in five games this season, climbed to seventh on the TTU all-time list for career minutes played with 5,327.

CINCINNATI  2, EASTERN KENTUCKY 0
CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Eastern Kentucky University women’s soccer team was shut out, 2-0, on Friday night at Cincinnati. The loss drops the Colonels to 2-2 on the season, while the win improves the undefeated Bearcats to 3-0-1.

A week after attempting just one shot in a loss at Kentucky, EKU got its offense back in gear on Friday, attempting nine shots and tallying five corner kicks; however, the Colonels could not convert on any of their chances.

Junior Nikki Donnelly led EKU with three shots in the game, while sophomore Devon Saini attempted two shots, one of which was on goal. For the second straight week, one of Donnelly’s potentially game-tying shots hit the crossbar.

The Colonels were again plagued by goals off set pieces, as the Bearcats’ Lauren Hettinger headed in the game-winner off a corner kick with eight minutes remaining in the first half. Cincinnati’s leading scorer, Laura Rose, then added an insurance goal with four minutes left in regulation.

Hettinger’s first-half score was the third goal off a set piece EKU has allowed in the last two games.

EKU’s freshman goalkeeper Erika Wolfer played all 90 minutes of the loss and withstood 24 Cincinnati shots, making a career-high eight saves.

EKU returns to action on Sunday when the Colonels, who are undefeated at home, host Wright State at 1:00 p.m.

BELMONT 1, EVANSVILLE 0
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -  Despite a tough defensive second half, the Belmont women's soccer team (3-1) was able to hold on to its early lead to pick up a win over Evansville (1-3) on Friday night at Rose Park.  The Bruins knocked off the Purple Aces, 1-0, earning their second shutout of the season.

BU dominated the first half on both sides of the ball culminating in what became the game winning goal in the 21st minute off a rebound by newcomer Katie Proud (Knoxville, Tenn.).  The Bruins then worked to maintain control for the remainder of the stanza.

After the break, Evansville turned up the heat midway through the half and refused to relinquish control.  For a span of nearly 14 minutes, the Purple Aces did not allow the Bruins to cross the midfield line.  However for as aggressive the UE offensive was, the Belmont defense was twice as much forcing numerous near misses.

Newcomer Kim Elmore (Salem, Va.) led the Bruins with a team-high three shots.  Sophomore Taylor Smith (Atlanta, Ga.) and Proud each recorded a pair.

Junior Nicole Berner (Randolph, N.J.) went the distance between the posts, collecting three saves on the night.

Belmont held the advantage in shots, 12-10, while Evansville led in corner kicks, 4-1.

Belmont returns to action on Sunday at Rose Park.  The Bruins host Miami (OH) beginning at 2 p.m.

PURDUE 2, UT MARTIN 0
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team fell in an early hole this evening at Purdue and could not recover, falling 2-0 to the Boilermakers at the Purdue Varsity Soccer Complex.

The Skyhawks attempted nine shots tonight, two of which were on goal. Sophomore Alyssa Curtis led the offense with three attempts, while Hannah McGowen fired a pair of shots. Sophomore goalkeeper Mariah Klenke recorded seven saves in all 90 minutes.

Klenke was put to the test early, earning a sliding save at the 1:55 mark. She also came up with a big overhead stop just under eight minutes into the match to keep the match scoreless before Purdue got on the scoreboard at the 9:09 mark.

UT Martin would attempt its first shot of the match at the 10:24 mark, but McGowen’s attempt would veer left.

Purdue added to its lead in the 16th minute, but the Skyhawks nearly cut their deficit in half in the 24th minute. Saphyra Coombs-James nearly came up with her third goal of the season but Boilermaker goalkeeper Clara Kridler made a one-handed save while falling down. Only 40 seconds later, Curtis fired a shot on goal but Kridler made the save in heavy traffic.

Jaclyn Heckle would attempt a header off a corner kick at the 28:38 mark but the shot went wide left.

Meanwhile, the Skyhawk defense stepped up and did not concede a shot attempt for a stretch of 28:53. As a result, Purdue had only outshot UT Martin by a 6-4 margin at the halftime break.

Klenke came up with a pair of saves from point blank range in a span of 49 seconds early in the second half. Starting in the 65th minute, she also notched two more saves in a stretch of 2:11 to keep the score at 2-0. Ashley Reveiz (60th minute) and Midori Sera (67th) attempted UT Martin’s first two shots of the second half. The Skyhawks would not get another opportunity until three shots were attempted over a stretch of 1:03 with less than two minutes to play in the match.

UT Martin will remain in the Hoosier State for its next match, as it squares off against Butler on Sunday, Sept. 2. The match is scheduled to begin at noon.

GONZAGA 1, AUSTIN PEAY 0
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -
Another early goal put Austin Peay State University women's soccer down early, and the Lady Govs were unable to find the equalizer, falling 1-0 to Gonzaga, Friday.

When starting keeper Nikki Filippone was forced to exit the game early in the first half due to injury, junior Haylee Shoaff was called in off the bench for Austin Peay (2-3-0). Gonzaga (4-1-0) forced across a ninth-minute goal on a Cricket Harber free kick that was touched to Kasey Rubosky by Emma Dolcetti. Rubosky put the header past the freshly-entered Shoaff for the go-ahead goal.

Gonzaga kept the pressure on the Lady Govs in the second half, with 10 shot attempts, including four on goal. Shoaff made all four save attempts in the second half, and six total in the contest, to push her past Brooke Abrahams for fourth all-time in Lady Govs history with 104.

Both Ariza sisters put shots on goal in the second half, but Gonzaga keeper Susan Brown stifled both attempts on net. She totaled three saves in the clean sheet.

The Lady Govs will have a day of rest before returning to action at 2 p.m., Sunday, when they host in-state foe Chattanooga in the finale of a four-game home stand. There will be a post-match clinic for kids at the conclusion of play.

SIUE 2, UMKC 1
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill
. - SIUE women's soccer outlasted Kansas City Friday night for a 2-1 win capping off a long first night of the SIUE Classic at Korte Stadium.

The game began in driving rain and more than hour late thanks to a lengthy delay in the evening's first game. Lightning forced the delay in the tournament's opening game between Green Bay and Northern Iowa. Green Bay defeated UNI 1-0 in the game. The weather issues were a result of the remnants of Hurricane Isaac, spinning over the Midwest.

The Cougars and Kangaroos ended the first half scoreless despite Kansas City outshooting SIUE 8-3.

SIUE (2-2) got on the scoreboard first when freshman Katye Skrivan headed home the first goal of her Cougar career in the 55th minute. The goal came from a corner kick by Michelle Auer. Cassidy Sherman got her head on the initial ball from Auer and drove it towards the back post where Skrivan finished the play.

The Kangaroos (1-2-1) evened the score less than 10 minutes later. Kaely Tott got the play started with a free kick just to the left of the 18-yard box. Randi Simmons banged in the loose ball to tie the score 1-1.

Samantha Jones netted the game-winner for SIUE in the 70th minute with the goal again coming on a restart. Auer took the free kick for the Cougars from the right side. Jones headed home the goal, rushing the back post.

Freshman goalkeeper Jennifer Pelley earned her second straight win for the Cougars, making nine saves in the process. Kansas City goalkeeper Nina Tzianos made four saves.

Both teams will play Sunday to wrap up the tournament. UMKC faces Green Bay at noon, while SIUE hosts Northern Iowa at 2 p.m.
