MURRAY STATE 5, ALABAMA A&M 0
MURRAY, Ky. - Veronika Pribyslavska (Prague, Czech Republic) recorded just the ninth hat trick in program history in Murray State’s 5-0 victory over Alabama A&M Friday afternoon at Cutchin Field. The win was the Racers’ first of the season.
Pribyslavska got MSU on the board early when she took the pass from Shauna Wicker and dribbled by the Bulldog defender to net the goal just six minutes into the contest. Pribyslavska also added goals in the 78th and 83rd minutes for the Racers who scored four of their five goals in the second half.
Wicker got her first goal of the season, to go along with her assist in the 46th minute off of a corner kick from Jenna Finke. Megg Hudson also recorded her second goal of the season in the 60th minute off of a Teryn Wright (Nicholasville, Ky.) pass. Morgan Miller (Owensboro, Ky.) and Kayla Harbin (Arlington, Tenn.) recorded the helpers on Pribyslavska’s final two goals.
Murray State didn’t just get it done offensively, but shut down Alabama A&M defensively as well. The Racers held A&M to just one shot in the game and had a 7-to-1 corner kick ratio. Latisha Stevenson (Benton, Ky.) recorded her first career win in net for the Racers. 2011 all-OVC performer Julie Mooney returned to see her first action of the season in the win. Mooney recorded three shots in 32 minutes of action.
The Racers return to action on Sunday as they host South Alabama in a 1 p.m. kickoff from Cutchin Field. The match will be MSU’s final non-conference game of the season.
EASTERN KENTUCKY 1, TRANSYLVANIA 0
RICHMOND, Ky. - Freshman Dani Cant scored the game-winning goal and freshman goalkeeper Erika Wolfer recorded her second shutout of the season as the Eastern Kentucky University women’s soccer team blanked visiting Transylvania, 1-0, on Friday afternoon at EKU Soccer Field.
With the win, EKU concludes the non-conference portion of its schedule with a record of 4-4-1.
For the second straight game, EKU outshot its opponent by a large margin, this time 21-9. The Colonels also had 11 corner kicks to the Pioneers’ one. Despite the gaudy offensive numbers, several dangerous EKU runs were called back by a season-high seven offsides penalties, and Basalyga would like to see more efficiency out of the attack.
Cant did just that with less than two minutes to play in the first half on Friday, receiving a cross from senior Deja Tennon and burying a shot in the lower left corner of the net to make the score 1-0. It was Cant’s first-career goal and it proved to be the game-winner as neither team scored in the second half and the Colonels held on for the narrow victory.
Junior Lauren Fant and sophomore Emily D’Italia and Paige Larkin all went the distance on EKU’s backline in the shutout, while Wolfer made seven saves to preserve the win.
After playing four games in eight days, EKU will now have nine days off until it hosts in-state rival Morehead State in the Colonels’ Ohio Valley Conference opener on Sunday, September 23, at 1:00 p.m.

MERCER 2, JACKSONVILLE STATE 1
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - Mercer netted a late game-winning goal as the Bears knocked off the Jacksonville State women's soccer team, 2-1, on Friday night at the JSU Soccer field.
MU's Casey Barrett dribbled past the Gamecock defense for a direct shot on goal for the game-winner in the 85th minute. The win moved the Bears to 5-3-1 on the season, while Jax State dropped just its second match of the season and stands at 6-2-1 with one non-conference match to play on Sunday at Samford.
After a scoreless first 45 minutes, both squads picked up the intensity and started taking more chances for offensive production. Mercer, who finished with 21 total shots, had 11 of those in the second half and was successful on a pair. JSU was credited with 13 scoring opportunities and were pretty much even in each half with six in the opening half and seven in the final period.
MU's Danielle Hesse broke the scoreless deadlock in the 67th minute. Hess took a direct shot off of a corner kick that was sent in by Lauren Gassie. Gassie finished with a match-high six shots to go along with her assist.
The Gamecocks turned in the equalizer in the 81st minute on a Kelsey Bright header past the MU keeper. The set piece was engineered after a Bear foul and senior Katie Manns served a perfect ball for Bright to record the goal. The goal was her third of the season, while Manns, who was named the Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week earlier in the week, tallied her third assist of the season.
Bright, a freshman from Kingwood, Texas, led all Gamecocks with three shot attempts. Senior goalkeeper Katelyn Geddings registered eight saves on the night The match was marred with penalties as both squads combined for 27 fouls and a pair of yellow cards issued.
Sunday's match at Samford will get underway at 7 p.m. on the Samford campus.
MEMPHIS 5, SOUTHEAST MISSOURI 0
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Defending Conference USA champion and NCAA Tournament second round qualifier Memphis topped the Southeast Missouri soccer team, 5-0, on Friday night.
The Tigers (3-3) got on the board over 20 minutes in when an Emily Adamic cross got deflected up top to Kylie Davis, who slipped a shot inside the post to make it a 1-0 Memphis lead. Memphis took advantage of a Southeast (1-6-2) turnover a few minutes later as Christabel Oduro shot the other direction from 20 yards out to make it a 2-0 contest.
Southeast created a strong opportunity after Ali Bauer's shot led to a corner in the 37th minute. The ball bounced in the middle of the 18-yard box, but Memphis managed to clear the ball away and keep the Redhawks from gaining ground.
It appeared the contest would go to halftime with a two-goal margin, but Memphis struck again in the 43rd minute when Sarah Daane gathered a rebound of her own shot from in close and put the ball into an open net to make it 3-0 Tigers at the break.
Memphis tallied two more goals midway through the second half, both on runs down through midfield. Taylor Isenhower scored from in close in the 61st minute and Natalia Gomez-Junco followed suit in the 66th minute to cap the scoring.
The Tigers outshot the Redhawks, 24-5, and owned a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks. Ashton Aubuchon started and made six saves on 11 shots in 70:17 in goal. Renee Kert made two saves in the final 19:43 for Southeast.
The Redhawks return to Houck Stadium next weekend when they open up Ohio Valley Conference play against defending OVC Tournament Champion UT Martin.
