INDIANA STATE 2, MURRAY STATE 1
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Racer soccer team held the lead for nearly 70 minutes on Sunday afternoon, but fell in the end on the road to Indiana State 2-1.
Veronika Pribyslavska got her first goal of the season for Murray State (0-4) in the 19th minute, giving the Racers the lead 1-0. Pribyslavska had just substituted in for Jenna Finke when she took Amber Hanson’s long pass over the top of the Sycamore defense and chipped the goal in over the keeper’s head.
The assist was Hanson’s first of the year.
Indiana State (3-2) looked like they would knot the contest up in the 68th minute when Shelby Troyer received a penalty kick. But goalkeeper Yi Du saved the shot, preserving the Racer lead. However, Indiana State would strike soon after, as they scored both goals less than two minutes apart to take the 2-1 lead and victory.
Du collected five saves in the contest for MSU, and Jenelle Cunningham led the Racers with three shots in the loss. Freshman Jenna Finke, Halle Pinkham and Taylor Stevens also had a shot apiece. In all, eight Racers played all 90 minutes in the contest. While Megg Hudson and Racheal Foxley played 82 and 81 minutes respectively.
Murray State will return home for its next contest on Sept. 9. The Racers will face Northern Kentucky in a 1 p.m. kickoff from Cutchin Field.
UT MARTIN 0, BUTLER 0
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - –The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team outshot host Butler 17-16 this afternoon at the Butler Varsity Field, but neither team could convert its chances in a 0-0 double overtime scoreless tie.
Junior Hannah McGowen led the way for the Skyhawks (1-3-1) with four shots of attempts – two of which were on goal. Midori Sera and Saphyra Coombs-James also recorded three shot attempts each for UT Martin.
Sophomore Mariah Klenke recorded her first shutout of the season and third of her career this afternoon, tallying a pair of saves in all 110 minutes.
Sera fired the Skyhawks’ first shot today, but her shot went wide left at the 4:34 mark. After a Dominika Conc attempt was blocked in the 11th minute, Coombs-James put UT Martin’s first shot on goal at the 12:59 mark, but Butler goalkeeper Mackenzie Hopkins made the save.
Coombs-James and McGowen combined for three more shot attempts over the next 14:08. Conc delivered a shot on goal off a corner kick in the 30th minute, but Hopkins snared another save.
The action in the first half would soon slow down, with Abi Sanvee attempting the only shot for either side at the 44:54 mark (wide right).
At the break, the Skyhawks had doubled up the Bulldogs in shot attempts (8-4).
Sera and McGowen each broke through for shot attempts within 1:31 of each other to begin the second half, as McGowen’s nearly snuck past Hopkins before she recorded the save.
Klenke made her first stop of the day at the 75:10 mark, preserving the 0-0 score. Less than four minutes later, Ashley Reveiz fired a shot on goal but Hopkins was there for the save once again.
With 3:43 left to go in regulation, Sera sent a shot that nearly found the back of the net before hitting the crossbar. That began a late push for UT Martin, as Coombs-James (87:27, high) and McGowen (89:16, Hopkins save) each attempted shots at the end of regulation.
Butler would outshoot UT Martin 3-0 in the first overtime period, but Klenke ensured the game would go into an extra overtime period, making a save at the 94:32 mark.
The Skyhawks were responsible for the first two shots in the double overtime period, as Sanvee had an attempt blocked and Curtis fired a shot that curved right. Butler attempted a pair of shots in the final 17 seconds of the match – including one that hit the post with eight seconds left – but the match ended in a 0-0 tie.
UT Martin concludes its five-match road swing this Friday, Sept. 7 at Arkansas State at 2 p.m. Next Sunday, Sept. 9, the Skyhawks return home for the first time since mid-August to take on in-state rival Lipscomb at 1 p.m.

KENTUCKY 1, SOUTHEAST MISSOURI 0
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Kentucky converted on a corner kick in the 54th minute to send the Southeast Missouri soccer team to a 1-0 loss in the final match of the Tropical Smoothie Invitational on Sunday.
Hayley Abbott and Ashton Aubuchon each earned all-tournament honors for their performance this weekend. Aubuchon is on the all-tournament team for the second-consecutive year.
The Redhawks (1-4-1) dropped their second contest of the weekend, matches against Louisville and Kentucky (4-0). Both teams finished in the top 30 of the NCAA’s RPI rankings a year ago.
The Redhawks and Wildcats played a scoreless first half. UK owned an 8-1 advantage in shots, but was unable to place any of its attempts on goal in the opening frame. Southeast recorded its first shot attempt in the 45th minute when Hayley Abbott got her head on a cross, but the ball deflected wide at the end of the first regulation period.
Kentucky got on the board with 36:42 left when Natalie Horner headed in an Alyssa Telang corner kick off the far post to make it 1-0. From there, Southeast found some openings in the UK defense, firing three of the next four shots, including two on net. Sarah Uptmor and Courtney Luehmann placed shots on goal roughly two minutes apart, but Wildcat keeper Kayla Price steered both attempts away.
The Wildcats outshot the Redhawks, 17-4, and owned an 11-0 advantage in corner kicks. Aubuchon got the start in goal for Southeast, her first since the season opener. She made three saves on four shots. UK’s Price turned aside both shots that Southeast put on goal to preserve the shutout.
The Redhawks are back in action on Saturday when they head to Nebraska.
SIUE 2, UNI 0
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - SIUE women's soccer won its own tournament Sunday with a 2-0 defeat of Northern Iowa at Korte Stadium. The Cougars finished 2-0 in the two-day event. It was the third consecutive win for SIUE.
The teams battled through periods of heavy rain again Sunday after playing in similar conditions Friday night.
SIUE (3-2) took an early lead over the Panthers thanks to a goal in the 12th minute. Sarah Doggendorf found Kristen Dailey in the middle of the box. Dailey one-timed a hard shot past UNI goalkeeper Erin Zaideman for her first goal of the season and a 1-0 lead. Dailey had just entered the game off the bench after starter Meagan Iffrig left the game after a hard collision with Zaideman.
The Cougars carried a one-goal lead into halftime and through most of the second half.
Michelle Auer put the game away for the Cougars with her second goal of the season in the 83nd minute. Freshman Katye Skrivan fed a through ball to the feet of Auer who cut ball to her left then slid a shot past Panther goalkeeper Nicole Poster to seal the win.

Jennifer Pelley earned her third straight win between the pipes for SIUE and the second shutout of her career. She made six saves including a point blank save midway through the first half.
Northern Iowa (3-3) finished with nine shots overall. Maggie Riley led the Panthers with three.

MIAMI 2, BELMONT 1
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Belmont women's soccer team (3-2) battled for an early lead before being overtaken in an extra period by visiting Miami (OH) on Sunday afternoon at E.S. Rose Park. The Bruins fell in their first overtime dual of the season to the RedHawks, 2-1.
Senior Lauren Paynter (Danville, Ky.) found the back of the net in the 19th minute to put Belmont up, 1-0. Belmont was able to hold onto its lead until late in the second stanza when Haley Walter battled junior Nicole Berner (Randolph, N.J.) one on one for MU's first goal of the game. The squads were locked in back and forth battle for the remainder of regulation.
The skies opened with a heavy downpour as the teams pushed into overtime. Kelsey Dinges manged to weave her way through heavy traffic to find the game winner just three minutes into the extra period.
Sophomore Allie Hicks (Carmel, Ind.) led the Bruins with two shots while senior Kailee Hawkins (Raleigh, N.C.), juniors Amy Jo Anderson (Birmingham, Ala.) and Katie Proud (Knoxville, Tenn.) and sophomore Kim Elmore (Salem, Va.) each finished with one shot.
Berner turned in a supreme effort between the posts, finishing with a season-high seven saves on the day.
EASTERN KENTUCKY 1, WRIGHT STATE 1
RICHMOND, Ky. - The Eastern Kentucky University women’s soccer team took an early lead off a goal by sophomore Kaylynn Brown in the in the eighth minute, but settled for a 1-1 tie against visiting Wright State on Sunday afternoon at EKU Soccer Field.
EKU moves to 2-2-1 on the season with the result. Wright State, which arrived in Richmond with a solid win over Ohio and draws with Denver and Depaul, goes to 2-1-2.
Just eight minutes into the game, Brown received a nifty cross from junior Nikki Donnelly and flicked it past WSU goalkeeper Brooke McCurdy from about three yards out to give the Colonels a quick advantage. It was Brown’s first goal and Donnelly’s first assist of the fall.
The Raiders, however, answered in the 24th minute when Ashley Miltko buried a shot from 25 yards out that sailed over EKU keeper Erika Wolfer’s head and evened the score.
Following the early flurry of goals, though, both defenses stiffened and the result was a double-overtime stalemate.
Senior Deja Tennon, junior Lauren Fant and sophomores Emily D’Italia and Paige Larkin played all 110 minutes on EKU’s backline, while Wolfer made six saves, including a key one late in the second half that prevented the potential game-winning goal.
EKU returns to action next weekend with tournament games against Kennesaw State and College of Charleston in Charleston, S.C.
AUSTIN PEAY 4, CHATTANOOGA 1
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Austin Peay State University women's soccer team ran roughshod over visiting Chattanooga, Sunday, at Morgan Brothers Field. Two goals from junior Tatiana Ariza, including the game-winner, led the Lady Govs to a 4-1 victory against the Mocs.
After giving up early goals in their previous two losses, the Lady Govs were the first to strike on Sunday. Junior Andy Quiceno netted her season's third goal to open scoring in the fifth minute, receiving a feed from senior Emily Perkins and burying it into the back of the net.
Chattanooga (1-3-1) would answer less than a minute later, with Hannah Wyatt scoring off of a Becca Smith corner kick.
In the 28th minute, Austin Peay's (3-3-0) Tatiana Ariza scored her season's first goal, taking a low cross from her sister Natalia and burying the shot from about 15 yards out for the eventual game-winner.
Perkins netted a goal of her own in the 56th minute, playing a deflection in the box from Taylor Van Wagner and beating the keeper for her season's third goal. The goal gives Perkins sole possession of seventh place-all time in Lady Govs history.
Tatiana Ariza added another insurance goal in the 59th minute to cap off the scoring. She now has six career multi-goal games.
Junior keeper Haylee Shoaff was solid in the net, picking up her season's second win. She made two saves, while Chattanooga's Lauren Thomas made four.

The Lady Govs also held a free post-match clinic for area kids. More than 30 kids participated in drills and games with Austin Peay coaches and players.
The Lady Govs next head north for a 4 p.m., Friday, match at Miami (Ohio). Austin Peay returns to Morgan Brothers Field for a three-match homestand beginning at 7 p.m., Sept. 14 against South Alabama.
MISSOURI 2, TENNESSEE TECH 0
COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Tennessee Tech soccer team went into Columbia Sunday afternoon expecting to be pushed to the limit by the #10 ranked Missouri Tiger offense, and it was. But after a 90-minute barrage of 34 shot attempts by the Tigers, the Golden Eagles walked away allowing only two goals.
The Golden Eagles accomplished what only one other team has been able to all season; hold the Missouri attack to two goals or fewer. UC Santa Barbara, the other to accomplish the feat, also lost 2-0. Arizona State and Memphis gave up four and five goals, respectively, to the Tigers. Even the 15th ranked California Bears couldn't stop Mizzou, allowing three goals in their loss to the Tigers.
The Tech defense was outstanding; saving its best for the toughest team it has faced all season. The defense kept the Tiger attack at bay, allowing just nine shots-on-goal on 34 shot attempts. Three different Golden Eagle defenders (Katie Phillips, Taylor Hicks, and Julie Thompson) logged 90 minutes on the day, showing grit and determination while fending off the Missouri offense.
Freshman goalkeeper Jordan Brown also provided a gutsy performance on the day, making seven saves and playing like a veteran against the toughest offense she has faced in her young career. Brown finished the weekend with 11 saves, the second straight weekend she put up double-digit save numbers.
The strong performance from the team came at a crucial junction in the season as the OVC opener creeps closer.
The Golden Eagles have just three non-conference matches remaining before opening OVC play. Tech will get two of those matches out of the way next weekend when it hosts Middle Tennessee on Friday, September 7, and travels to Western Carolina on Sunday, September 9.
JACKSONVILLE STATE 1, LOUISIANA TECH 0
TROY, Ala. - The Jacksonville State women's soccer team extended its winning streak to five in a row and captured the Trojan Classic title with a 1-0 shut out of Louisiana Tech on Sunday.
The Gamecocks moved to 5-1 on the season and wrapped up their season-long five-match road trip with an unblemished mark on the record and the fourth consecutive match in which they turned in a shutout performance. The current five-match win streak is the longest in the program's 18-year history. The last time Jax State blanked four straight opponents was during the 2003 campaign (Tennessee Tech, 1-0; Austin Peay, 1-0; Union College, 1-0; Morehead State, 2-0).
JSU just did get the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute as freshman Kelsey Bright netted her second goal of the weekend. With just over four minutes remaining a heavy thunderstorm moved through the Troy campus, halting the game for an hour before the officials called the game with the Red and White coming away with the win.
Bright, who scored JSU's insurance goal on Friday afternoon against Stetson, took an assist from sophomore Courtney Hurt and headed the ball past the Tech keeper from five yards out. Bright's conversion was one of JSU's ten shot attempts and one of eight on goal scoring opportunities. The Kingwood, Texas-native was credited with seven of JSU's ten shots, including five on goal.
The Stifling JSU defense kept the Tech offense at bay the entire match as the Lady Techsters were limited to just four shots in the contest. With the 84 minutes of action Sunday, the opposition has not scored on JSU in over 400 minutes – dating back to the late stages of the first half of the Georgia State game.
Bright was joined by teammates Jackie Rush and Katelyn Geddings on the All-Tournament Team. Rush completed the weekend with three shots, while Geddings put together a 2-0 record in goal and carded four saves.
After five matches away from the JSU Soccer Complex, the Gamecocks return home with their sights set on another tournament crown. JSU will host the annual Gamecock Adidas Soccer Classic on Friday, Sept. 7 and Sunday, Sept. 9. Friday's action kicks off at 4:30 p.m. with South Carolina State taking on Jackson State at 4:30 p.m. JSU will face McNeese State at 7 p.m. Admission is free to all JSU home matches.
