TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - SIUE evened its record to 3-3 Sunday with a four-set victory over Loyola in its final match of the Jessica Barkman Memorial Classic.
The Cougars dropped the first set but went on to win the next three straight sets in a 22-25, 25-17, 25-20, 25-22 final.
Kelsey Augustine led the Cougars with a match-high 15 kills. She hit .375 for the match and led the Cougars with three blocks.
Senior Brooke Smith turned in a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs.
SIUE was faced with a tall Loyola squad that used its height advantage. The Ramblers, 5-2, finished with 13 blocks. Anna Eytchison paced the Ramblers with six blocks and a team-high 13 kills.
SIUE libero Chelsea Colclasure took over the team lead in service aces with seven after adding three against Loyola.
SIUE next heads to Akron, Ohio, for the Akron Invitational. The Cougars will take on host Akron, Youngstown State, and Binghamton next weekend.
NOTRE DAME 3, EASTERN KENTUCKY 0
SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Host Notre Dame beat Eastern Kentucky University’s volleyball team 3-0 on the final day of the Shamrock Invitational.
The Fighting Irish won by scores of 25-16, 25-22 and 25-20.
Freshman Rachel Vick led the team with nine kills and a .333 attack percentage. Kelsey Kuehner added eight kills. Dena Ott posted a match-best 23 digs.
Toni Alugbue led all players with 17 kills for Notre Dame. Jeni Houser added 10 kills.
Eastern will be back in action on Friday against Oakland University at the Cleveland State Invitational. The match is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
