TENNESSEE TECH 1, SIUE 0
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee Tech soccer team grabbed its first Ohio Valley Conference victory of the season Friday afternoon, taking down the Cougars of SIUE 1-0 with an impressive defensive effort.
The first half, which was played to a stalemate, saw 14 SIUE shots to just two for the Golden Eagles. Tech rebounded, however, putting up eight more shots and sealing the game with the only goal of the contest.
Senior midfielder Sarah Gawthrop tapped in her second goal of the season in the 49th off a rebound off the crossbar from an Ellie Iaciofano shot. It marked the seventh goal of Gawthrop's career and put the Golden Eagles up for good. Iaciofano was credited with her second assist of the year giving her a team and OVC-leading 14 points on the season.
The Golden Eagle defense shut down the Cougars from that point on, allowing no goals despite a barrage of attempts from the SIUE offense. SIUE attempted 30 shots in the game, however, they were limited to just 14 shots on goal by stingy defensive play from several different Tech players.
Freshman goalkeeper Jordan Brown, who ranked second in the OVC in saves heading into the match, racked up a career-high 14 saves in the match. She made several impressive diving stops during the match and stopped eight SIUE shots in the second half alone. The win also marked Brown's second career shutout and third career win. Her 14 saves marked the highest amount by an OVC player this season and the most in the OVC since Oct. 30 of last year.
SIUE's Jennifer Pelley made six saves and lost for just the second time this season.
SOUTHEAST MISSOURI 6, MURRAY STATE 0
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - A six-goal outburst in the first half propelled the Southeast Missouri soccer team to an emphatic 6-0 victory over Murray State at Houck Stadium on Friday night.
The Redhawks (2-6-3, 1-0-1 Ohio Valley) picked up their first OVC win and snapped a six-match winless skid in the process.
Southeast's six goals were its most against an OVC opponent since downing Eastern Kentucky, 9-0, on Sept. 30, 2007.
The Redhawks got on the board in the eighth minute when a Racer (3-6-0, 1-1-0 OVC) foul gave Courtney Luehmann a free kick just past midfield. Luehmann served a perfect ball into the middle of the 18-yard box that Hayley Abbott soared to head over MSU keeper Latisha Stevenson to make it 1-0.
In the 16th minute, Southeast began a string of three goals in an 8:14 span. Paige Luehmann set up the Redhawks' second tally with a well placed cross that found fellow freshman defender Amy Harrington running down the other side of the field. Harrington one-touched the ball into the far side of the post for her first-career goal.
Jacey Boyko made it 3-0 Redhawks in the 21st minute when Jacey Boyko corralled a loose ball from 25 yards out and fired a perfectly-placed shot into the top corner of the cage for her first goal of the season. Torey Byrd added her first of the year in the 24th minute when Ali Bauer's high ball corralled off Courtney Luehmann into the box, where Byrd did not miss.
The Southeast defense got involved once again in the 39th minute when Hayley Abbott played a long ball down field that Paige Luehmann caught up with and crossed to Byrd, who converted for her second tally of the night to put the rout on at 5-0.
Southeast's offense wasn't done quite yet, as Ali Bauer headed an Ashley Geist corner kick feed into the top of the net with 27 seconds remaining in the first half to cap the scoring.
Altogether, Southeast's defense scored or assisted on five of the six goals. The starting defense Abbott, Bauer, Harrington and Paige Luehmann combined for three goals and four assists on the night.
The large lead allowed the Redhawks to limit the minutes of most of its starters in a scoreless second half. Six of the 10 field players were on the field for less than 50 minutes in a week the Redhawks play three times.
Southeast attempted a season-high 21 shots and allowed only nine Murray State attempts. The Racers finished with a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Ashton Aubuchon got the starting nod in goal for the Redhawks. The junior made five saves for her first win and shutout of the season.
JACKSONVILLE STATE 1, EASTERN ILLINOIS 0
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - The Jacksonville State soccer team remained undefeated in Ohio Valley Conference play after blanking Eastern Illinois, 1-0, on Friday evening at the JSU Soccer Field.
The win pushed Jax State's overall mark to 9-2-1 and 2-0 in the OVC. The nine wins are the most by a Gamecock squad since the 2003 club put 11 in the win column. JSU has now strung together two league wins for the first time since the end of the 2009 season when it won back-to-back OVC games to close out the year.It was also JSU's sixth shutout of the year. After just six shots in the first half, JSU looked to add an insurance goal and had eight opportunities, but could not put it away. The Gamecocks melted away the final few minutes of the contest to preserve the win.
Freshman Kelsey Bright led JSU in shots with four, including three on-goal chances. Senior goalkeeper turned in a steady performance with seven saves.
BELMONT 1, EASTERN KENTUCKY 1
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - – Senior Deja Tennon scored her first goal of the season to tie the score with 12 minutes remaining in regulation as the Eastern Kentucky University soccer team went on the road and played Ohio Valley Conference newcomer Belmont to a 1-1 double-overtime draw on Friday evening.

Belmont took the lead early in the second half when Brandi Phillips rebounded a shot in the box and scored in the 56th minute to make it 1-0.
The Bruins held that lead until the 78th minute when Tennon buried a shot from 30 yards out off a free kick to even the score.
