AUSTIN PEAY 1, SOUTHEAST MISSOURI 0
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - After an offensive outburst on Friday night, the Southeast Missouri soccer team found goals tough to come by in a 1-0 loss to Austin Peay on Sunday afternoon.
The Redhawks (2-7-3, 1-1-1 Ohio Valley) took 14 shots on the Lady Govs (5-7-0, 1-2-0 OVC), but were unable to place some of its best chances on goal in the setback.
APSU attempted six of the first seven shots in the first 20 minutes of the first half, but Renee Kertz was equal to the task on each attempt. Southeast took control of play over the remainder of the opening frame, pinning APSU in its own end for the majority of the final 25 minutes and attempted four shots in that span. Despite the extended possession time, the contest went to halftime scoreless.
Play was even for most of the early portions of the second half, but the Lady Govs got on the board in the 60th minute of play. Morgan Zigelsky played a long ball past the Redhawks' defense and Emily Perkins won a foot race with Kertz and slipped a shot past her into the net to make it 1-0.
The Redhawks turned on the offensive pressure over the final 30 minutes of play, creating several dangerous scoring threats. An Amy Ward cross found Ashley Geist near the goal in the 68th minute, but her shot slipped wide of the cage to keep the Lady Govs on top.
Southeast's best attempt came with 13:36 left as a Jacey Boyko cross bounced to Courtney Luehmann near an open net, but the ball took a tricky hop and went wide of the goal.
With under seven minutes remaining, Ward made a perfect flip throw-in to the attacking area, where a pair of Redhawks got in close shots, but a wall of Lady Gov defenders blocked the first attempt and forced the rebound shot wide.
Southeast and APSU each attempted 14 shots, though the Lady Govs held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Kertz steered aside eight of the nine shots she faced while Haylee Shoaff stopped all six of the shots the Redhawks sent her way.
JACKSONVILLE STATE 3, SIUE 2
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - Jacksonville State weathered two storms on Sunday en route to a 3-2 win over SIUE in Ohio Valley Conference soccer action at the JSU Soccer Field.
The win kept the Gamecocks perfect in OVC play at 3-0 and pushed their season's overall mark to 10-2-1. The Cougars of SIUE fell to 4-5-1 overall and 1-2 against OVC competition.
The match was played under dreary conditions in Jacksonville in the first half and then a steady rain pelted the contest in the second half.
Jax State took control of the contest in first half as freshman Kelsey Bright provided the offense in the opening half in a 13-minute span during the half. The Kingwood, Texas-native finished on a corner kick from senior Katie Manns for the first goal of the contest in the 12th minute. Bright pushed a ball from Katt Dowd past SIU goalkeeper, Jennifer Pelley to the left corner to put JSU up 2-0 in the 25th minute.
JSU knew the Cougars would make a second half push to even the contest. The Gamecock lead was trimmed in half in the 67th minute after SIUE's Michelle Auer drilled a penalty kick into the back of the net. Auer registered ten of SIUE's 29 total shots in the contest, while Jax State tallied six shots. SIUE turned in 13 first half scoring opportunities, while adding 16 in the final 45 minutes. JSU senior goalkeeper was active all day with a season-high 18 saves.
Jax State quickly extended its 2-1 deficit in the 68th minute with a penalty kick after SIUE was assessed a foul inside the box. Manns, who already engineered JSU's first goal of the contest, finished off the free kick with a ball in the right corner of the net. The goal Manns' first of the season and the assist was her fifth of the year.
After the penalty kick to make it 3-2, JSU thwarted many scoring chances for the Cougars and preserved the win.
MOREHEAD STATE 2, BELMONT 1
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Freshman Kimberly Golden scored what proved to be the match-winner in the 47th minute to lift the Morehead State soccer team over Belmont, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon.
The win improved the Eagles to 1-8-1 on the season and 1-1-0 in Ohio Valley Conference play, while the Bruins fell to 4-5-1 and 0-1-1 in league contests.

After several offensive chances, Golden crossed the ball from deep in the corner, and the clearance from Belmont goalkeeper Nicole Berner was not enough. Tilley gained possession inside the 18-yard box and slipped the ball just inside the post for her first score of the season.
Golden found herself involved in another scoring play just more than a minute into the second half for MSU. This time, she scored following a BU missed clearance for her second goal of the season.
It didn’t take long for the Bruins to respond as sophomore Rachel Schmidt found herself with the ball at the top of the 18-yard box. She sent a shot past Floyd into the upper corner to cut the lead to 2-1 in the 53rd minute. However, the Eagles held the hosts scoreless for the final 36 minutes.
