LINCOLN, Neb. - The Southeast Missouri soccer team held Big Ten foe Nebraska scoreless for the first 50 minutes on the road, but the Cornhuskers scored four times in the second half to defeat the Redhawks 4-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Nebraska improves to 3-4 on the season while Southeast is now 1-5-1.
The Cornhuskers peppered the Redhawks' net with shots in the first half, going into halftime with an 11-0 edge in shot attempts. Ashton Aubuchon steered aside all six attempts that came her way as Southeast and Nebraska entered the break still scoreless.
Nebraska broke in the 51st minute when a Southeast foul created a free kick from 25 yards out. Caroline Gray took the shot from that distance and found the back of the net to make it a 1-0 contest.
The Cornhuskers extended their lead to 2-0 10 minutes later when Mayme Conroy headed in a cross from Stacy Bartels with less than 30 minutes to play. Nebraska struck two more times when Hannah Dittmer and Stacy Bartels scored 52 seconds apart to make it a 4-0 contest.
Southeast was outshot, 30-1, and Nebraska held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks. Aubuchon, making her second-second consecutive start, made a career-high 13 saves.
Saturday's match was the last of Southeast's three-match road trip. The Redhawks return to Houck Stadium to face Evansville on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m.
