ORLANDO, Fla. - Sophomore Kenzi Tate, a pitcher for The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team, struck out 10 batters and allowed five hits en route to a 5-0 shutout over Holy Cross earlier today in the Rebel Spring Games.
Senior Leah Taylor, from Brownsville, had a pair of RBI and three stolen bases. Tate, Kayla Wade and Becca Williams had one double each in the game. Tate and Stephanie Nidiffer were also credited with an RBI each.
The Skyhawks scored one run in the first inning, two runs in the second inning and two more runs in the fourth inning.
Tate picked up the win in the circle, her sixth of the season, she allowed one walk and five hits and racked up 10 strikeouts.
Sophomore left-hander Casey Vincent made the best of one run as she pitched seven innings and struck out four batters to lead UT Martin to a 1-0 victory over Sacred Heart earlier this morning in the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla.
Sam McClure drove in the Skyhawks only run of the game with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third inning. Sophomore Kelsey Dixon had two hits in the game.
The Skyhawks return to action in the Rebel Games Tuesday, March 5 when they play St. Francis and Detroit-Mercy.
