CHARLESTON, Ill. - Sixth-seeded Jacksonville State defeated No. 2 SIUE, 2-0, on Friday morning. The Gamecocks will play the winner of the Murray State/Eastern Illinois game at 3 p.m. on Saturday while the Cougars will play the winner of the Morehead State/UT Martin game at 12:30 p.m.
The two teams got three innings in yesterday before heavy rains suspended the game until this morning. Neither team could score until the top of the 9th.
Jacksonville State got things started as Sara Borders hit a single in the top of the 9th. Borders later scored on an error by the SIUE second baseman. Kelci Johnston hit a double that scored Savannah Sloan to extend JSU's lead to 2-0.
Samantha Stanicek led the Cougars with two hits.
Tiffany Harbin picked up the win in the circle, striking out 14. Erin Greenwalt took the loss, fanning nine.
MURRAY STATE 3, EASTERN ILLINOIS 1
CHARLESTON, Ill. - Fourth-seeded Murray State defeated No. 1 Eastern Illinois in the second game of the day. The Racers will face No. 6 Jacksonville State tomorrow at 3 p.m. while the Panthers will play Eastern Kentucky at 10 a.m. CT.
Eastern Illinois got on the board first in the bottom of the second.
Leslie Bridges put the Racers on the board as she hit a two-run shot in the top of the fourth. It was her fourth homer of the season. Murray State added another run in the top of the sixth.
Shelby Kosmecki tossed 4.0 innings to earn her 11th win of the season. Hanna Mennenga was tagged with the loss.
Shelbey Miller went 2-for-4 to lead Murray State. Brooke Owens paced the Panthers with a pair of hits.
UT MARTIN 5, MOREHEAD STATE 2
CHARLESTON, Ill. - Fifth-seeded UT Martin defeated No. 8 Morehead State, 5-2, in the third game of the day. The Skyhawks will face SIUE at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow.
Morehead State struck first as Sam Woodall singles and eventually scored on an error in the top of the first inning.
In the Skyhawks' half of the first inning, Kayla Wade hit a grand slam to give UT Martin the lead. It was her second career home run.
The Eagles cut the lead to 4-2 in the top of the fourth as Katie Raile hit a double that scored Stephane Etter.
UT Martin added another run in the bottom of the sixth as Leah Taylor hit her 10th home run of the season. Taylor finished the gamee 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Kenzi Tate picked up the win while Katie Pfost was tagged with the loss.
