MURRAY STATE 5, MOREHEAD STATE 0
MURRAY, Ky. -
Julie Mooney’s second hat trick of the season helped propel the Murray State women’s soccer team to its most lopsided conference win since 2001 with a 5-0 victory over Morehead State Friday afternoon at Cutchin Field.

The Racers wasted little time getting on the scoreboard in the contest, as Mooney made it 1-0 in the 13th minute off a pass from Pavlina Nepokojova. That goal went down as her 10th of 2014, making her just the third player in MSU history to score 10 or more goals in a season.

Later in the half, Nepokova was fouled in the box, giving Murray State a penalty kick opportunity. Mooney made it 2-for-2 on penalty kicks on the season, as she buried the ball in the back of the net to give her team a 2-0 lead at the break.

Just minutes into the second, Mooney struck on a cross from Tayor Stevens for her third goal of the game and second hat trick of the season. She joins Krista Muilkens as the only two Racers in program history with two career hat tricks and is the first ever to notch two in the same season.

In the 64th minute, less than a minute after her third goal, Mooney assisted Harriet Withers, who dribbled into the box and scored to put the Racers on top 4-0. In the 66th minute, Withers returned the favor and set up Bronagh Kerins, who after a scramble at the mouth of the goal, tapped it past the keeper for MSU’s fifth goal of the afternoon.

Shelby Haworth was perfect between the posts for the fourth time this season, as she came up with seven saves in the clean sheet effort. Her goals against average now stands at just 1.07 on the year and only 0.78 in OVC play.

With the win, Murray State improves to 7-7 on the year and 3-2 in league play, while Morehead State suffers their first conference loss to fall to 3-1-1 in the OVC and 8-3-4 overall.

SIUE 1, BELMONT 0
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
SIUE women's soccer won its fourth straight conference game 1-0 against Belmont.

Junior goalkeeper Jennifer Pelley recorded her 19th career shutout in the win, moving her to second place all-time at SIUE.

The Cougars saw a scoreless first half, in which each team recorded five shots.

A goal in the 51st minute by freshman Emily Grahl put the Cougars ahead. Grahl faked a pass before netting the ball to the opposite post from 20 yards out. The goal was assisted by Kayla Delgado and was Grahl's third goal on the year.

Pelley made all five of her saves in the second half to seal the victory for the Cougars. Each team recorded 13 shots on the game.

The Cougars improve to 7-4-1 and a perfect 4-0 in conference, the best start the team has seen since joining the Ohio Valley Conference.

AUSTIN PEAY 1, SOUTHEAST MISSOURI 0
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -
Sophomore MF Mary Ruth Locastro broke a scoreless tie with an overtime goal to lift Austin Peay (3-9, 2-2) over Southeast Missouri (5-5, 2-2) on Friday evening at Houck Stadium. Locastro scored off of a rebound to account for the game's lone goal.

The teams played to a 0-0 tie in regulation with the Redhawks offense controlling the ball for most of the contest. Southeast outshot Austin Peay 13-4 for the game, including an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Locastro recorded a game-high three of the shots on goal for the Lady Govs. GK Nikki Filippone earned the shutout with seven saves.
