MOREHEAD, Ky. - Senior Jade Flory scored two goals, and senior midfielder Caity Fox recorded a pair of assists to lead the Morehead State soccer team to a 3-0 win over Tennessee Tech Sunday at Jayne Stadium.
Sophomore forward Angela Black capped the scoring with a goal with just five seconds left. Morehead State improved to 8-2-4 overall, 3-0-1 in the Ohio Valley Conference and 6-0-0 at home this year. MSU is now 9-1-2 against Tech since 2003. The Golden Eagles fell to 2-11-0 overall, 0-4-0 in the league and 1-9-0 in road matches.
Morehead State has now won seven consecutive home matches since last season and nine of its last 10 on the turf at Jayne Stadium
Flory upped her career goal total to 23, which ranks fourth in program history. She now has 57 points in 36 matches to rank third on the school's career point chart. Black netted her 12th career goal, while Fox tallied her third and fourth assists in 2014.
Morehead State out-shot TTU 16-3 and held a 13-2 advantage in corner kicks. Flory's first goal, at 23:01, came following a corner kick by Fox. The kick sailed to the opposite side of the net where Flory settled and nailed a shot past Golden Eagle goalkeeper Rebecca Toler.
Flory's second tally came at 62:44. She took a forward pass from Fox and raced along the left side before slashing a shot past Toler.
Black scored at 89:55. An MSU shot ricocheted off the crossbar, and Toler knocked the ball away before Black gathered it and scored from five yards away.
Toler stopped five of MSU's eight shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper Elizabeth Floyd halted two Tech attempts.
JACKSONVILLE STATE 2, EASTERN KENTUCKY 1
RICHMOND, Ky. - A pair of second half goals keyed Jacksonville State in a 2-1 come-from-behind win over Eastern Kentucky on Sunday afternoon in Ohio Valley Conference soccer action at the EKU Soccer Field.
The win snapped a three-match losing streak for the Gamecocks (6-7) and evened their conference mark at 2-2. The Colonels fell to 1-2-1 in OVC play and 3-9-1 overall. JSU won in Richmond, Ky. for the first time since 2005 and the first win over EKU since 2006.
The deciding factor came down to a penalty kick in the 69th minute as redshirt junior Courtney Hurt connected on the eventual game winner. The game winner was Hurt's eighth of the season, which leads the Gamecocks this season.
Jax State, who trailed since the 3rd minute of the contest after an early EKU goal, equalized in the second half. Junior Kelsey Bright headed a ball off the foot of senior Jackie Rush in the 62nd minute after the Colonels' keeper came out of the net for Rush's ball. Bright and Rush combined for six of JSU's 13 total shots in the contest. The Gamecocks posted seven first-half shots and followed that half with six in the second period. The Gamecocks withstood an EKU rally after taking the lead as they attempted seven shots.
Freshman goalkeeper Caroline Robinson returned to action in the net in the second half and recorded a pair of saves. The JSU defensive backline kept the Colonels at-bay throughout the contest.
EKU's early goal was scored by Cassie Smith, who took a ball from a cross from Logan Harvey.
EASTERN ILLINOIS 3, AUSTIN PEAY 1
CHARLESTON, Ill. - Meagan Radloff scored a pair of second half goals as Eastern Illinois picked up a 3-1 Ohio Valley Conference win over Austin Peay on Sunday afternoon at Lakeside Field.
EIU improved to 2-10-1, 1-3 in the OVC. The Panthers will play at Tennessee Tech and Jacksonville State next weekend. Austin Peay fell to 2-9, 1-2 in the OVC.
The Lady Govs scored in the opening minutes as Sophia Fabbro fed Gina Fabbro off a set piece just right of the goal box. Gina Fabbro drove home the ball to far side of the net in the fourth minute for a 1-0 lead.
The Panthers answered six minutes later as Hannah Miller finished off a pass from Madison Carter. Miller’s shot beat the APSU goalkeeper to the far side of the net.
Radloff gave EIU its first lead of the contest two minutes into the second half as she finished off a pass from Allie Lakie. Radloff scored off a set piece from 18 yards out as she connected on a quick pass from Lakie.
The final Radloff goal came in the 74th minute as EIU was awarded a penalty kick following a hand ball called in the goal box. It was Radloff’s second penalty kick goal this year.
EIU goalkeeper Emily Hinton finished with seven saves. APSU goalkeeper Nikki Fillippone finished with four save.
SOUTHEAST MISSOURI 2, MURRAY STATE 1
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri (5-4, 2-1) forward Breana Beine scored a go-ahead goal with 11:15 remaining to lift the Redhawks 2-1 over Murray State (6-7, 2-2) on Sunday afternoon at Houck Stadium. Heather Nelson notched her 150th victory leading the Southeast program.
The Redhawks took a 1-0 lead just 3:01 into the contest when forward Kasey Crowden scored on a header off of a corner kick from midfielder Jenna Collingridge. It was the first goal of the season for Crowden and first assist for Collingridge.
In the 36th minute, Murray State forward Julie Mooney tied the match at 1-1 when she converted a penalty kick for her OVC-leading ninth goal of the season.
The match remained tied until Beine scored the deciding goal on a pass from forward Natasha Minor in the 79th minute. It was Beine's team-leading fifth goal of the season and Minor's team-high fifth assist. Both players are tied with a team-best 11 points.
Minor led Southeast with four shots and three shots on goal. Beine added three shots and two shots on goal.
Mooney recorded a game-high six shots, including two shots on goal. Forward Pavlina Nepokojova registered five shots and a game-high four shots on goal.
Goalkeepers Kindra Lierz and Shelby Haworth both finished with six saves. Southeast defenders added two additional saves on shots on goal.
The Redhawks return to action on Friday, Oct. 10 when they host Austin Peay at 6:30 p.m. Coach Nelson will be honored prior to the match for her 150th win as the Southeast head coach.
SIUE 2, UT MARTIN 1
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - SIUE women's soccer overcame top-ranked UT Martin 2-1 to improve to 3-0 in the conference.
The win marks the first-ever 3-0 Ohio Valley Conference start in SIUE women's soccer.
UT Martin falls to 2-2 in the conference with the loss.
SIUE capitalized on a shot from senior Michelle Auer in the 26th minute to start the game 1-0. The goal, scored from 15 yards out to the far post, was Auer's fifth on the year. It was assisted by Emily Grahl and Marissa Delgado.
Less than three minutes later, the Skyhawks answered with a goal of their own with a header from Rianna Jarrett.
An own goal for the Skyhawks put the Cougars ahead 2-1 less than a minute into the second half.
Kayla Delgado led the team in shots with seven. The Cougars outshot UT Martin 16-10. Jennifer Pelley recorded two saves.
