MURRAY STATE 3, NORTHERN KENTUCKY 1
MURRAY, Ky. - The Murray State women's soccer team won for the third straight time Sunday in a 4-1 win over the Northern Kentucky Norse at Cutchin Field in Murray, Ky.
The Racer attack was constant and relentless as they outshot the Norse 15-7 and got four goals from four different players. Bronagh Kerins and Taylor Richerson each scored her first goal of the season, while Harriet Withers and Julie Mooney notched their fourth and seventh.
The Racers (4-5) finish up non-league play on a hot streak just in time to begin play in the Ohio Valley Conference. The Racers host Tennessee Tech at 3 p.m. Friday. MSU is also home Sunday to face Jacksonville State at 1 p.m.
MSU scratched the scoreboard first in the 17th minute when Kerins picked up a loose NKU pass some 35 yards in front of the goal. She was one-on-one and chipped the ball past the keeper for a 1-0 MSU lead. Pavlina Nepokojova made her second assist of the season on the play.
NKU (3-3-2) scored in the 29th minute to tie it, but the Racers scored again about two minutes later in the 32nd minute when Mooney scored unassisted for a 2-1 lead .
In the second half, the Racers went ahead 3-1 in the 60th minute when Richerson scored off a pass from Mooney and Withers tacked on another goal for a 4-1 lead in the 68th minute. Her goal was unassisted.
The MSU defensive effort was stellar in holding NKU to only seven shots and largely kept the heat off of Racer goalkeeper Shelby Haworth. The freshman improved to 3-3 with the win as she saved the only shot on goal she faced in 90 minutes.

DAYTON, Ohio - Wright State scored a goal two minutes into the second half Sunday and held the Morehead State soccer team in check as the Raiders defeated the Eagles, 1-0, at Alumni Field.

UT MARTIN 2, GEORGIA STATE 0
ATLANTA, Ga. - The University of Tennessee at Martin women’s soccer team put the finishing touches on a successful non-conference schedule with a 2-0 road victory at Georgia State, sweeping the Georgia swing with back-to-back victories over the weekend.
The Skyhawks continued their winning ways behind two goals from senior Ashlie Watson. The victory not only moved the Skyhawks to 6-3 on the season but ranks as the most wins through non-conference play in school history. Not only have the Skyhawks picked up six wins on the young campaign, but they head into Ohio Valley Conference play with five shutouts on the year.
Watson led the Skyhawks with both goals on the afternoon, moving into a tie of the team lead with five goals on the season.
Watson was joined by sophomore Ellie Myrick with four shot attempts on the day, while Alyssa Curtis tallied three attempts.
Defensively the Skyhawks stood strong once again, allowing just four shots on goal while senior Mariah Klenke registered four saves in 90 minutes between the posts. Notching five shutouts on the season moves Klenke into a tie for fifth on the single-season shutouts list, just two behind the all-time record which she currently holds with seven. The clean sheet ranks as the 20th of her career and 39th career victory, both UT Martin records.
Georgia State (2-5-3) attempted 13 shots on the afternoon, led by Ashley Nagy with three attempts. Jenna Moore and Nikki Fedele also tallied multi-shot outings with two apiece. Goalkeeper Brie Haynes tallied two saves in addition to her two goals allowed.
In a physical game which saw five yellow cards be distributed, the Skyhawks got on the board first in the 41st minute. Junior Rianna Jarrett tallied her third assist of the season as she found Watson after a pair of Panther defenders collided in pursuit. Watson would take the assist and score to the bottom left of the net for her first goal of the day and fourth of the season.
Watson would flip the script but perform a similar act in the 78th minute of the match. This time with the assist coming from freshman Eva Heller, Watson scored from 10 yards out into the bottom right corner of the net, giving the senior her second multi-goal outing of the season.
Georgia State would place its final attempt on goal in the 84th minute, but Klenke would register her fourth and final save of the afternoon to preserve the 2-0 road victory.
The Skyhawks will return to action on Friday, Sept. 26 when they cap off their six-game road swing with an OVC opener at Jacksonville State. Action from the JSU Soccer Field is scheduled to get underway at 7 p.m.

EVANSVILLE 7, TENNESSEE TECH 0
EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Tennessee Tech soccer team had its hands full Sunday afternoon, running up against a solid Evansville attack in a 7-0 loss to close out the season's non-conference action. The Golden Eagles (2-7-0) couldn't overcome a five-goal second half by the Purple Aces, (7-3-2) who ran away with the contest after scoring three times in the second period's first 11 minutes.
Evansville's stellar freshmen tandem of Olivia Shafer and Nicki Baham combined for five goals in the match, with Shafer recording a hat trick to help push the Purple Aces to their third consecutive win and fifth straight shutout.
After sophomore Bronwyn Boswell christened the scoring with her fourth goal of the season in the 20th minute, Shafer went to work with a 33rd minute score, aided off an Emily Richardson assist, one of two in the match for the sophomore mid-fielder.
Leading 2-0 at the break, the Purple Aces came out swinging in the second half thanks in large part to the play of the aforementioned Shafer, who found the back of the net twice in the span of just three minutes after an Abby Springer goal in the 49th minute gave Evansville a 3-0 lead. Shafer's string of two-straight goals came in the 54th and 57th minutes, essentially putting the game on ice with the Purple Aces now on top 5-0.
Nicki Baham padded the advantage with a pair of late scores, splitting the pipes in both the 71st and 87th minutes to cap off the Evansville scoring at 7-0. Baham received a pass from sophomore Laura Minor, before sending one in the lower right of the net for her first goal, while the second one came off of a breakaway.
The seven-goal attack came on 25 shots, 11 of which were on-goal, while the Golden Eagles managed four shots, three of which were on-point.
Sophomore Whitney Biggs and junior Simone Busby teamed up to keep Tech off the board with three combined saves in the match, while senior Rebecca Toler made two halts and allowed six scores in 75 minutes on the pitch, and sophomore Allison Barlow made two saves and surrendered one goal in 15 minutes of action.
TTU will set its sights on the beginning of conference play, traveling to Murray State on Sep. 26 for the team's next match. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m. CT.
