EAST TENNESSEE STATE 4, EASTERN KENTUCKY 2
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Sophomore Logan Harvey scored a pair of late goals, but the Eastern Kentucky University soccer team fell to host East Tennessee State, 4-2, on Wednesday night.
Both of Harvey’s goals came with less than 10 minutes to play in the game. With EKU trailing 4-0 in the 82nd minute, Harvey received a long pass from the opposite side of the field, outran the defense and chipped a shot over ETSU keeper Jasmine Elliot’s head.
Harvey struck again four minutes later, scoring off a rebounded shot to make it 4-2.
They were the second and third goals of Harvey’s career. The native of Wadsworth, Ohio scored a dramatic game-winner in overtime versus conference foe Eastern Illinois last October.
Harvey is the eighth Colonel ever to score two goals in a game, joining Kayla Swearingen (2007), Janelle Coates (2010), Nikki Donnelly (twice in 2010, twice in 2012), Devon Saini (2011), Dani Cant (2014), Emmi Carroll (2014) and Cassie Smith (2014).
ETSU (4-1-0) got on the board early when Molly Collinson scored off an assist from Vardali Thomai in the second minute. The Buccaneers added a goal in the 41st minute to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
In the 55th minute, Collinson scored again, this time off an assist from Rachel Harbin. Alexa Passingham made it 4-0 with a goal in the 62nd minute.
Harvey and freshman Kacy Eckley led EKU with two shots apiece in the game.
Collinson and Cecilia Re paced the ETSU attack with five shots each.
Eckley and fellow freshman Emily Beaver went the distance on the backline for the Colonels.
Senior goalkeeper Samm Melton made six saves in the loss.
EKU returns to action on Monday, September 7, when the Colonels play at Marshall at 4:00 p.m.
