GAME NOTES: Rivals Murray State and Southeast Missouri will meet for the 50th time on Saturday night in Cape Girardeau. The game marks the 85th birthday for Houck Stadium which hosted its first game on Oct. 3, 1930 (Southeast vs. Southern Illinois). The Racers hold a large advantage in the all-time series (39-9-1) but the teams have split the series over the past 10 years with each team winning five times. In each of the past two years the squads have played exciting multiple overtime games with Southeast winning 37-34 in triple overtime in 2013 and Murray State winning 44-41 in double overtime a year ago. That game went back-and-forth and featured seven lead changes with no team leading by more than eight points at any given time. After the team’s exchanged field goals in the first overtime (including a 52-yarder by Southeast), the Redhawks connected on another field goal before KD Humphries hit Janawski Davis for the game-winning touchdown. That was one of six total touchdown passes Humphries threw on the day in earning National Player of the Week honors. Davis caught two of those while Nevar Griffin added three scores on nine total catches. Kyle Snyder threw three touchdowns and rushed for another for the Redhawks.

SCOUTING MURRAY STATE: Murray State began OVC play by rolling up 551 yards of total offense but came up on the short end of a 31-29 decision to Tennessee Tech on Saturday. The Racers lost four fumbles on the night and had a field goal and PAT attempt blocked but still had a chance to tie the game with 1:51 to play before seeing its two-point conversion come up just short. Quarterback KD Humphries set a new career-high with 491 passing yards on 43-of-57 passes while also throwing for three and running for another touchdown. Humphries is first nationally in completions/game (31.0), second in total passing yards (1,461) and passing yards/game (365.3), third in passing touchdowns (11) and fourth in total offense (377.8 yards/game) and ninth in completion percentage (68.5%) and points responsible for/game (20.0). Jeremy Harness caught 11 passes for 115 yards while Janawski Davis hauled in seven passes for 140 yards and three touchdowns. Junior transfer Elijah Daniel was named OVC Newcomer of the Week after netting nine tackles, including six for loss (for a total of 22 yards) and 2.5 sacks (for a loss of 15 yards).

SCOUTING SOUTHEAST MISSOURI: Southeast Missouri suffered an upset at the hands of Division II Shorter University on Saturday, marking the first loss to a non-Division I opponent for the team since moving to Division I in 1991. It marked the second-straight loss for the Redhawks with those two defeats coming by a combined six points. Playing without running back DeMichael Jackson, who suffered a season-ending injury the week prior, the Redhawks turned to Tremane McCullough who carried the ball 18 times for 166 yards (9.2 ypc) in his first career start. He is averaging 7.37 yards/carry on the season which is 10th nationally. Freshman Dante Vandeven made his first career start (after entering the Indiana State in the second half) and completed 13-of-17 passes for 104 yards and rushing for 28 yard and a touchdown. Junior Roper Garrett had 11 tackles, marking his third-straight double-digit tackle performance; in the process he went over 200 career tackles and now ranks 22nd nationally in tackles/game (10.3). As a team Southeast Missouri is sixth nationally in tackles-for-loss/game (8.8) and ninth in sacks/game (3.5).
