NASHVILLE - Senior Taylor Barnette sank a 3-pointer with 3.3 seconds left in overtime to lift Belmont University men's basketball to a 78-76 victory overtime Lipscomb Tuesday night.
Just one week earlier, Belmont won in equally dramatic fashion, on senior Evan Bradds' length-of-the-floor pass to sophomore Dylan Windler for the game-winning basket with 0.4 seconds remaining.
Belmont again endured uncharacteristically cold shooting, but rode its strong defense to dig out of a 10-point halftime deficit.
The Bruins held Lipscomb to 4-for-24 shooting in the second half, and nearly won at the end of regulation as junior Austin Luke had a halfcourt shot at the horn inexplicably dip in and out.
Belmont also got to the finish line without three starters, as Luke, Bradds and Windler all fouled out.
Barnette made a 3-pointer with 52 seconds remaining in overtime to get Belmont within 76-75.
Then after a defensive stop, the Bruins again turned to Barnette, who missed his initial 3-point attempt, but got a second crack at it after hustle plays from junior Amanze Egekeze and junior Burton Sampson.
Barnette proceeded to bury a straight-on 25-footer with time winding down. Lipscomb's Kenny Cooper had a 40-footer at the horn rim off.
Belmont improves to 4-3 and have won 11 consecutive games in the Battle of the Boulevard series.
