RICHMOND, Ky. - Eastern Kentucky and Murray State remained unbeaten in OVC play as they played to a 1-1 draw in Richmond, Ky. on Thursday afternoon.
The Colonels move to 7-3-4 overall and 4-0-3 in OVC play while the Racers are now 9-1-2 overall and 4-0-2 in league action.
Miyah Watford provided the only goal for the Racers in the 52nd minute. Getting a bouncing ball that deflected off the gloves of EKU keeper Anna Hall, Watford secured her third goal of the season.
Emmi Carroll scored the equalizer in the 73rd minute for Eastern Kentucky. Carroll had a chance to give EKU the lead when Murray State was whistled for a handball in the box in the first half; however, her resulting penalty kick sailed wide
Carroll and senior forward Jordan Foster led EKU with two shots apiece. Both of Carroll’s shots were on goal, while Foster had one shot on target. In total, Eastern fired 10 shots at the goal, five of those being on target.
MSU was led by Harriet Withers with four shots, two being on goal. The Colonel defense held Withers, who is third in the country in scoring with 12 goals, to her third lowest shot total of the season and her lowest since she had just two shots in the Racers’ only loss to Saint Louis on September 17.
Hall tallied six saves on the night for EKU, three alone in the second overtime, and two of which were dramatic, diving saves in the final minute of the game that prevented the Murray State win.
Murray State goalkeeper Alex Steigerwald made four stops in the match.
